I would have thought the focus would not be on the legality of taking the drug itself, but the fact that hundreds/thousands of people die yearly in the manufacture and export of cocaine from South America, and gang violence in London revolves around the distribution and selling of drugs. All that damage just so Gove can snort some coke.

For the most part, this Butchers Bill arises not from the production and distribution of cocaine but rather simply because it is illegal.

(As does the Butchers Bill among the users)

Whose opinion would you respect the more.

#1 "I have taken drugs in the past and on the basis of my personal experience, I maintain that they should remain prohibited"

#2 "I have never taken drugs because drugs are bad, and if i did i didn't inhale"

Definitely the first, but having worked with Ministers (inc. our soon to be ex PM) for over a decade saying things as they are (honesty) doesn't always come naturally to them. It's always a competition between them, framing things in a way to make them look better than others in public opinion.

And another question.

Should Ted Heath (Not somebody I am any great fan of mind. Its his fault we are in the mess we are in now after all) have been prevented from becoming PM (and indeed chucked out of parliament altogether along with all the other poofs) on the grounds that prior to the sexual offenses act 1964, they would all have been sex criminals who had also broken the law??

I don't think it's breaking the law that's the issue per se (within reason of course, I'm sure some have driven over the speed limit but assault, drug dealing etc would be another matter).

Does it really matter that he took drugs 20 years ago? No, like you say we've all done things when younger and still sometimes make mistakes.

Just another smear campaign launched to discredit a potential political adversary.

Honestly I've lost faith that any party is capable of anything more than back stabbing and self-interest.

Just like making the mistake of being poor, of which the Tories will make you suffer forever.

Nonsense. Tories want people to be rich, what is the point of owning a corperation if nobody can afford to buy the goods that you produce.

It is the Socialists who require a permanent population of chronically poor people who they can exploit and forever rely on for their support by sewing bitterness and envy.

I didn't think there were people who still believed this.

What in particular about the last 9 years for which they have been in power leads you to make that confident statement about the Conservatives.

Oh the conservatives definitely want people to be rich but only a select few and mainly themselves and their chums.

The Tories of the past, 70s/80s and 90s were more on the side of businesses than todays lot.

I so miss "Not the nine o'clock news"

What a meal they would make of all this now Boris's "Class A" usage has been called into question too.

I can see it now, All the leadership hopefuls lounging on Sofas in a house in Claa-am or Chelsea.

Passing round the mirror and the razor blades, snorting through £50's, and all the while denouncing the drug trade and demanding that scumbag dealers should given no quarter by the Law.

:p
