Why is 10 Gb Ethernet still so expensive?

Well she's up/running and serving traffic ;)

Currently just 3 x 16TB drives, fully loaded it could be 112TB (RAID5).

That does look Great :)
Well done on the build

Thanks, sit's next to my little comms cabinet that keeps things relatively neat

I was considering putting it in the cabinet but I think for heat sake and the fact I don't mind the way it looks it might stay outside (also would mean me having to move all the rails and basically move everything)

Your going to need a bigger room soon :D

Your going to need a bigger room soon :D

I'm going to run a fiber to the barn and put stuff out there ;) (actually probably going to convert one of the bottom rooms in barn into home-office next year as I'm pretty much going to be exclusively working from home, be nice to get office out of my home into somewhere seperate)

Need some help again.

My Qnap has 2 10 Gb ports and 4 1 Gb ports.
I want to get the 10 Gb part on to the net via a switch to see if it sorts my connection issue out.

Would a MikroTik CRS305-1G-4S+IN do this for me?
Thanks

Yes but if your QNAP is copper you’ll need the correct SFP+ module.

My qnap is SFP+ so it should be ok? It has a duel 10Gb ports.

Do I need to connect a 1Gb cable from my router to the POE and one SFP+ cable from the switch to the Nas
And then a SFP+ cable from the switch to my PC SFP+ nic?

Thanks for helping

Yes pretty much, you can get the right DAC cheap enough. I have two of the same switches and they’re really good for the price.

It all came and the qnap was on the net :)
But the transfer speeds was rubbish. Worst I've ever had.

So I took the MikroTik CRS305 out. And I'm back to normal speed.

I don't if I should send the MikroTik CRS305 back or read for weeks :(
The MikroTik CRS305 is not easy to setup to me.

Are you running it in SWOS or RouterOS? If you’re running RouterOS that might explain the slow speeds.

I did go to SWOS but still the same.
I was hoping it would sort out my 10Gb. iperf. says it 3-5Gb.

Both intel adaptor config says it's 10Gb and my qnap nas says 10Gb.
I'm to old for this :( :)

Hardware reset. Plug cables in. Leave it be. If it still doesn’t do 10GbE speeds then send it back. It’s a switch. Sure, it’s a switch with two operating systems but fundamentally it’s a plug & play switch. You shouldn’t have to do anything to it. The default configuration is RouterOS with all ports bridged (a switch).

Thanks for your help.

I've sent the switch back because I have solved my nic connection.

I was using an old version of iperf. Found the latest one here https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1234695-iperf-3101-windows-build/#comments
Now my connection is 8.9Gb.

My sppeds are not that as good as some.
But I'll put that down to my old nas.

Again. Thank you.
