Why is Amd not announcing anything

I hope we hear some news about the 390X soon. It will be a very good card, of that I have no doubt but if it comes with the water cooler, I can see that putting people off.
 
Wouldn't be surprised if the 390X is a no show-it's AMD!:D

AIO won't put many off, some, yes, but not as many as you might think.
 
Anything that can offer better than 290 performance and cost £180 or less and I'll bite. I suspect AMD will get there first. Nothing Nvidia has announced has excited me this year.

HTC on the other hand...

They will have something decent, that I am sure of. I guess because I am a custom water guy, it would put me off but they will have blocks out after a few weeks, so no biggie.

I'm still on a 7870 from late 2012, it's holding up well but you know it's been a quarter of a decade now....

When die shrinks and dx12 I think we'll see a big shift just in time for 4k to get a bit mainstream.
 
i expect the 390X is being modded right now.

no 380X, it'll be 390.........390X..........390X Dual

so if you buy an AMD which one ?????????????????

That's probably just the reference one, aib's will have them on air I imagine.

Aio's are great for those that won't go full water, running 290X mgpu using a fan controller set to the lowest the fans can spin without stalling and they run@~70c(top)/~50c(bottom).
 
Yer, the tech sites hinted at AIB coolers. On a very very serious note, a 390X or 2 could be coming my way if they come with 8GB and the TX doesn't deliver... Now my head is a little leveled, who knows? 4GB is a Deffo no for me though.
 
4Gb-then it's a 1440p gpu maxIQ, it isn't enough for maxed 4K, only if an 8Gb one arrives a month or two later at most then it's back in the race for 4K, if not then AMD have nothing for mgpu 4K, and it's open season for Nvidia mgpu@4K.
 
If the r390x comes at around $549 and r390 at $399 with 30-45% over gtx980, then AMD has a winner. However, I'm afraid they're not gonna start a war price over this.

PS: 4k is tinny slice, most likely irrelevant for a year or two.

Hopefully AMD will come out with something 8GB (whatever they end up calling it), since they love to talk about 4K at the moment.

And we can be pretty certain that the Titan X would beat anything from either company with 4GB at 4K.
 
Here's some scenarios for 390X:

8GB HBM as soon as gen2 ready
8GB HBM using 8 stacks or 8hi stacks instead of assumed 4
4GB HBM + 4GB GDDR5 (with hopefully intelligent traffic control)

I just can't see them releasing the 90 with only 4GB. Especially when they have already done the research on two-level memory with HBM.
 
I hope you are right and 8GB is a given. I have been itching for new toys and as much as 12GB is nice, I don't feel it is warranted just yet. It could save me cash basically and ideal for 4K

It may be a wise move to avoid HBM until the tech has settled down.

If it works without problems it will be great.

On the other hand it could be so bug riddled that the GTX 970 memory problems will look like a molehill compared to a HBM mountain.

I hope AMD do all the testing and work needed to avoid launch problems.

My prediction (and guess) if anyone is interested is the 390X will be faster @1080p and the Titan X will be tops for 2160p.:)
