Why is AMD quiet about black screens on 290x?

This problem is really getting under my skin and starting to **** me off. AMD havent said crap about this problem, nothing, nada. And there seems to be no fixes so far.

Jesus ADGSHAWERHJNSTEGRA christ....

Most of their customers have convinced themselves that the sun shines out of their backside, the rest stay with NVidia. :p

Email a few popular tech sites and alert them to the problem?

1. I dont want 780tis burning down my house as a result of faulty PCBs.
2. i dont want to pay as much as they demand for the performance.
3. i dont want physx or cuda.
4. Mantle.

They did a similar stonewalling with the HD79xx locking up WoW issue, just ignored it for a year then randomly fixed it in a driver update but never acknowledged the issue or the fix.

Don't worry im sure it's just a teething thing, if it's a widespread problem it should get fixed.

Oh great, so waiting one year isnt that unrealistic?

Great job AMD great job! Maybe i should get GK104 while im at it (Dealing with stupid ****)

7xxx series had the GSOD on launch, AMD pretended to have fixed it via drivers but there were still forums (including their own) full of complaints, I think most people probably got fed up and RMA'd their cards in the end.

Had no issues with my golden 7970. Didnt get it at launch though.

They're known to ignore issues on launch cards. They can't afford the bad press. There were a lot of underlying hardware level problems with the 5870 which got practically no coverage. They might be the loveable under dog on here, but they're also sly dogs when they need to be.

Their beta testers are ****. If 1/4 (if not more) gets these black screens, some even on stock. You KNOW they barely tested these cards. Its stupid, its ****ing me off.

Could it be a heat/memory problem with that 1200mhz o/c. maybe the card is just not getting enough airflow, what's the fan speed/profile set at for that o/clock?
Ive got it water cooled with 3x 360 rads.

Is the OP having this issue at stock or when overclocked??

Or both??

Only overclocked, i can do 1100/1450 stock voltage. No black screens. I can do 1125 slight artifacting. Again no black screen. If i overvolt to fix the artifacting i will get a black screen. And only at 120hz. The clocks seems irellevant. Its the fact that im over volting it. Some people have mentioned that the VRM on these cards cant cooperate properly with the cards due to different power delivery (7.5mV in bulks on MSI AB and the card is made to handle 5mV, something like that). And this is why i think i can get an avarage oc on my card, since i have avarage ASIC. If this idea is correct, people with the black screen problem AND LOW ASIC should have a lot more issues when over volting.

I think he is saying he has the issue only when overclocked, but that if he runs at 60hz (and overclocked) it's stable. I may be reading it incorrectly though.

That is correct.

Not sure i found the same problem i think when i tried it once. Disabling powerplay support should leave the card in 3d mode so im surprised that does not help. Did you restart the pc after making the change?

Applying the 2d profile (Stock settings) and the card will go into 300/1250. If i apply my 3d profile it'll do 1180/1500 and not drop.

Use AMD Cleanup tool, reinstall drivers and reinstall afterburner maybe?

I have done this so many times. Its one of three: 1. Faulty card. 2. Bad voltage control in current oc programs. 3. Driver issue.

never had a problem with my 290x other than a bit of coil whine which seems to have fixed itself now. no black screen or anything. Infact this is the first card that i bought at launch that has little to no issues.... Nvidia are always aweful with their launch cards

Running stock or even 1100/1450 is no problem for me either. Its once i start overvolting (I dont even have to overclock) i get issues.

He means; its just tapped out about 1150, it won't do 1200.......

Which bios are you running on the card? I know Gibbo said once he flashed his non asus cards to asus bios they oc a lot better.

Agreed.

A card is not guaranteed to overclock and if it runs at stock clocks with no issue, then you have no grounds to return it. Sure you can be fed up and disappointed but this is the chip lottery.

You say it runs fine until you add more volts. Then don't add more volts and leave them as they are.

You cant be serious? You guys are not listening/read my posts.

For the last time. The card will OVERCLOCK just fine, but im getting a black screen when i overvolt too much, and it helps to run 60hz, no idea why. (It doesnt crash just output disconnection)

Just to clarify does running at 60hz stop the black screens or just turn crashes into output disconnects instead?

It stops the blackscreening to a certain degree, but if i overvolt more its back to black screens. and yes, its as if someone disconnected my DVI.
