Why is Bradford so hated?

Just visited Bradford for the first time in a long time today, specifically leeds road. It was a pleasant experience and I appreciated the genuine multicultural aura. It seems like quite an affluent city, with lots of well to do young men in nice cars such as RS6s, G Wagons, RS3s etc. Now bare in mind I didn't spend that much time there, but everyone I spoke to was pleasant and it was a good experience.

Just wondering why it has such a bad reputation? Is racism a factor or is there something I am missing?

FTFY.
We have a few projects in Bradistan, yeah pretty rough.

Walk down the wrong street, look at the wrong person in the wrong way you will get stabbed.

It's actually probably the only place I have ever felt uncomfortable, and I was driving!

Any moron can finance a car to the hilt.
Why is so much credence given to mugs in expensive cars....

I only have one experience of Bradford probably 15-20 years ago and it wasn't inspiring - skirted around one of the supposedly bad areas and most places both commercial and quite a bit of residential had security shutters, bars in the windows, spiked metal fences, etc. and really didn't leave me with the feeling it was a place I'd want to live.

I might be getting mixed up with another memory but pretty sure we saw a car stolen in broad daylight as we drove through as well (EDIT: Think I'm getting mixed up with another memory there but I can't quite place it).

Here's a summary of Bradford from someone who lives there.(Not me)

Dare to use public transport around the Interchange and you will inevitably get stabbed. Venture a mile or so out of the city centre (if you dare) and things don’t improve one bit. The area of Manningham (famous for some of Britains worst ever riots in 2001) resembles a third-world war zone. Listerhills, with it’s derelict crumbling mills and huge selection of emaciated, smack riddled whores wandering the streets, even in broad day light, is literally a no-go area, whilst Great Horton, Frizinghall and Thornbury offer nothing but row upon row of run-down or boarded up terraced houses, where you’ll struggle to find anybody at all who speaks English. Venture a couple miles North to Shipley and be confronted by a population of ***** who reside on notorious council estates such as Windhill and West Royd. These cider swilling, wizz snorting, tracksuit wearing monsters are truly dangerous people, who will no doubt “kick t’ **** out o’ yer” if you even glance in their direction. Set eyes on the architectural ogre of Shipley clock tower and you will no doubt require some sort of counselling.

Sounds delightful I'm sure you'll agree

If you like Bradford you may well like Blackpool Central, Rhyl, Milton Keynes and Manchester Moss Side for days out ;) Wilmslow, Alderley Edge and Bramhall won't be your cup of tea though.

Warzone yeah right...

Slightly amusing the Google street view camera for that area is all noisy for added effect.
