Just curious as to why deeplinking is not allowed, Linking 1 image from 1 site compared to linking the exact same image from lets say photobucket, Is it bandwidth issues ?

Because you have no control over the original image and it could be changed to anything.

stealing bandwidth this forum has a massive user base any image is likely downloaded thousands of times and it quickly adds up.
I'm not on about our bandwidth I'm on about the website that hosts the image. If it was bandwidth related, the GIF thread would require a static thumbnail, rather than a direct link. Each time you load a page in that thread, you download every GIF (= bandwidth use). If you go back into the same page later and only one new GIF is added, you are loading all the other GIFs again (= double bandwidth use), although depends on local cache policy.
I am sure it is just image retention.
Nothing wrong with a bit of penis now and then![]()
I once posted an image in the high-res game screenshot thread here and there was 5gb of traffic to that one image in a few days lol.
^^ I suspect from OcUK's point of view its more about people replacing the image with something inappropriate which would be a pain to moderate. The bandwidth leaching isn't very considerate either.
I get that but why does that apply to using images from respected sources like the BBC for example? Are the Beeb really going to replace the image with a porn one?
Also there as much chance as a site randomly changing an image for another one and that one breaking the rules of the forum and using exactly the same url as there is one of photobucket's admin teams doing it with what you uploaded (i.e virtually zero)
