I used to just use programs that minimise to tray, that way my parents/sister wouldnt shut it by accident when i was downloading.

Tell me if I'm living in a parallel universe or something, but if I was downloading some huge file and didn't want anybody cancelling it I'd probably have gone the "Hey guys, do me a favour and dont cancel my download. Thanks." route, then gone to bed.
