Spec is:

P4 3.2ghz
1GB PC 3200 Dual channel Ram
250GB Sata Drive
7600GT AGP

Even running fear on Medium settings is so jumpy and horrible

I am running windows vista with the latest drivers for the card but still jumpy

When i installed and played the demo it worked fine on medium settings, nice and smooth, it only started getting jumpy on max settings.

The only thing i can think of it being is when i installed and run the game for the first time, it asked me to download a 600mb game download, which i did, tried installing it and it says its only available in (English US), didnt give me any other options, then it just exit the updater.

I've highlighted the problems there...

Vista is currently slower than XP for gaming... and your hardware ain't exactly that powerful. Only 1GB of RAM REALLY doesn't help with Vista or FEAR. :)

What res is that at?

Even on medium a high resolution could push its RAM usage over 1gb (especially seeing as you're running vista) and it'll be paging data to disk.

:EDIT: Infact even at 1280x1024 or higher I'd expect it to use at least 500+mb, I'd say it's your RAM for sure.

Is it exactly the same places in game you're comparing it to?

From when I played FEAR I noticed it was quite fussy for no reason sometimes but it was always in the same areas.

The demo was much better optimised, because of course they need it to look damn good for the public :p
A bad running demo isn't good advertising.

I'd say its definetly the lack of RAM, when I upgraded to 2 gig it was a huge boost.

FEAR was the last game I completed on my old rig, which was a 2600+ athlon, 1gig of slow RAM and a 6600GT. It did used to lock up every now and then and have a good think! But it was playable. A bit different now on my new rig though :p

I'd say the 1gig of RAM... I first tried FEAR demo on a similiar spec PC (P4C 3gig overclocked to 3.2) except 1gig of RAM and a 5950ultra and it ran pretty badly, upgraded to a 6800 (clocked beyond ultra speeds) and it was much better but still got some major slowdowns at points, I then put another gig of RAM in and it ran smooth as smooth with a good 60fps in mostly high quality settings...

now with the spec as in my sig it runs like a dream 200+fps for much of the time.
