Everyone wants to be a Sniper? I mean whats so special about a sniper rifle, wow it has a scope so I can see my enemy from far away, it don't make any sense to me.

I prefer being a sniper because you can get kills without having to get into a lot of action :D. Sometimes on games like Battflefield2 I like to sit back with my sniper rifle watching other firefights lol.

Hard to use??? it's more difficult trying to shoot an enemy at 200 yards on DOD S with M1 Garand then it is with a rifle with a scope mounted on it that magnifies your target x number of times, it's just a matter of point and click. Tell me a FPS game which has ever been real enough to simulate an actual sniper rifle, I am talking about bullet drop, windage and air pressure. Sure a Sniper is "cool" he looks cool in games like BF2 but in most FPS games all he does is just aim and shoot, run around and aim and shoot some more, there is no skill in it.

It can totally depend on the game, and the way the sniper rifle weapon / class has been designed.

Certainly on Counter-Strike and it's variants, the main sniper rifle is moaned at. It can be used by anybody in a random public and get kills, but to use it properly and effectively, you've got to have a huge amount of skill to be able to do a lot of things.

Well yeah, that's what snipers are for? Taking out targets at long distances? What is wrong with utilizing the advantage of that particular weapon given the situation?
Which is easier to use at close range? It all boils down to the situation and environment. I doubt everyone will be wanting to play sniper on a close combat map.

Every single argument you have presented in this discussion has been petty, meaningless and non-sensical.

I imagine what he is trying to say is that while there is indeed a skill needed to use a sniper rifle, once you are even average in its usage it is all too easy to sit at one end of a map or find a camp spot where no one can get within 100 yards of you without being seen, and pick them off before they can actually get into 'close quarters' combat. Maps on CSS like Dust are pretty well ruined for 90% of players because you just have a sniper sitting 100 yards away from a choke point. Bear in mind that public servers are supposed to be fun for everyone, including the 'noobs'. Frankly, the unwillingness to recognise the effect a sniper has on the game is a lot more petty and childish than anything he had to say.

This point is proven almost without fail by any server which has the 'vote awp off' tool on it, which is almost always utilised to do so. Even though in clan matches I know perfectly well how to use a sniper rifle, I don't use it in publics cos I know how little fun it is for everyone else, and to be honest, its more fun to go toe-to-toe with people than lazily pick them off with one hand while you do ... other stuff with your other.

Thats what I wanted to say (one too many beers) I feel like a game is dominated by Snipers on CQB maps, "One Shot One kill" is what the moto is and although this is not the case on some games ie Battlefield 2 but on games like Counter-Strike Source, Day Of Defeat Source or Americas Army it is absolutely ridiculous to be using a Sniper rifle in a CQB map.

Well, that is of course only ONE game of many which feature sniper rifles. I agree to a certain extent though, that sniper rifles in CS:S can potentially, in a sense spoil the game.
That said there's plenty of methods to counter a sniper in CS:S. I don't usually have any problems taking them out. Each style of play brings advantages and disadvantages to the player. I still firmly believe that skill rises above all regardless of the situation. I wouldn't say any of the sniper rifles in CS:S are unfair or overpowered, personally.

that is a stupid thing to say.

CSS, AWP for example, easy to use, hard to master. It takes skill to NEVER miss

I played AA for 3 years until BF2 came along, Snipers in AA were good mainly because you could only have one or two on each side (it was also only on certain maps) but since they added pistols there was a lot of people just running around like idiots shooting with Pistols instead of using the Sniper rifle. I would love to see a game that simulated the role of a Sniper accurately.
