Why is OCUK the best forum on the web?

There are literally thousands of good forums out there but people tend to find 2 or 3 and stick with them.

This forum is for computer nerds, in terms of popularity it is not even close to other forums but if you are only interested in cpu's benchmarks, and the latest refresh rate of the newest monitors you will be stuck in your own little bubble.

It's good for what it is but most people will pass though it when they get the information they need.

Because it has the best mods this side of 4chan.

Really though, I think it's more the fact that it was linked to a shop that has grown a great deal both due to market ballooning and increased market share, and that it has steadfastly refused to change the fundamentals of what made it great when it began. So many communities have lack of a common "core" and/or try to change things as they grow, which appeals to some new members but ultimately the soul of the place is lost. To be honest, a lot of that stubbornness (for want of a better phrase) has been due to the mod team, therefore actually I'm going to come full circle and say, because mods :p

It's a great forum, seems to have picked up again recently. Had some great threads in GD, some great community spirit and of course great PC advice.

If you think about it OCUK is kind of like a swamp and we are all Shrek. Even though it's full of **** most of the time it still is our swamp.

And the mods are like Donkey..... annoying as **** most of the time but acceptable for the most part.

It’s the only forum I’ve ever been active on. I don’t know why, I just like it. Apart from a lull a couple of years ago, I’ve read this forum most days since.

Been here fifteen years and counting. I browse daily, but don’t always post daily.

It’s just a good community (you don’t see much arguing here..saying that I’ve not ventured into the GPU section in a long time!). Lots of subforums and posters, which makes it a good read on a wide range of topics. It’s also safe for work. :)

It’s the only place I’m aware of that:

1) Read about PC’s and PC builds, gaming, and of course overclocking
2) Moan about Donald trump
3) Read about people’s lives and issues
4) Browse Merlins scones and Craig’s dishes when he’s allowed out
5) Look at cars, find out how to fix a 2002 Astra (if I had one!) but browse other cars and bikes, including seeing what’s car Acme has bought for £3.50 and watch fox patronise people just because he feels like it.
6) Laugh at so many people ‘debating’ (read arguing - no names but you know who you are)
7) Check out what people thought of shows or films before deciding whether or not to give them a go
8) Sporadically pop into the sports zone and look at some people’s gym logs and push bikes which look amazing

The list goes on.

The forum is great for having its little niches. Recently I’ve been chatting guitars, documenting my play through of the Resident Evil games, talking about coronavirus stuff... lots of cool things.

Doesn’t seem to be as many forum generated memes these days - I think Gucci belt is the most recent one? :p

I can’t get in with Reddit at all... any discussion which isn’t presented in chronological order should be banished.

Reddit is great, but you need to find the right subs for you to be a part of for it to work as the frontpage you see is bolstered by your joined subs...

It's home.

You mean 127.0.0.1.

similar to others....I've signed up to lots of forums for specific advice/chat (motors/music/etc) but this is the only forum I've delved in to general/other discussions/sub forums
