Why is there no good games anymore?

Seriously, I can't think of a single game that came out this year that I got even vaguely excited about. The only thing I'm currently looking forward to is Mechwarrior 5, but that's years out isn't it?

I think the last game I bought was Blood Bowl, and I only got that because I never got a chance to play it when I was younger, and wanted to give it a go. Sadly however, it wasn't my thing.

Why is there nothing like Homeworld anymore? What about another Nexus: the Jupiter Incident? How about a Sins of a Solar Empire 2? A new Master of Orion?

Where the hell have all my space and sci-fi themed strategy games gone? all there seems to be these days is a constant hose of **** modern day warfare simulators, and fantasy themed rubbish and I'm sick to the teeth of them!

Of course, I've just remembered, I have to look into buying AI Wars later on, but thats done by a lone chap in his bedroom isnt it? i'm nor suggesting that this makes it rubbish, but I just want to know why the publishers are producing these gems anymore?

Anyone care to recommend some games for me? :(

TL;DR Version: spec me some Sci-fi Strategy Games, preferably ones where large groups of ships blow the living **** out of other large groups of ships. Or Solo ship based fun, except with completely customizable ships?

Ok, sorry, I'm not keen on player based RPG's.

I want epic battles in space with fleets blowing the living **** out of each other!

In terms of RPG I mean like its implemented in Nexus: TJI or Mechwarrior, where you choose youe ship/mech and then kit it out the way you want for the mission ahead. theres probably a different term for what I mean.

Edited original post to remove "RPG"

I hear you, i want more sci-fi that isn't fps too. Didn't an expansion come out for sins recently though, or was it more months than i'm thinking.

There was another which might ahve gone under your rader which is 'dark star one' i think, that was a space sim thing i believe, never played it personally.

Well, I would have loved a newer Emperium Gallactica release, with a decent AI. It was amazingly fun back in the day, both the first one which was pretty much story driven, and the second one which was a bit less so, but an improvement in graphics and gameplay.

Unfortinutely the closes thing to that now days seems to be something like X3, but from strategic point, of view, the controls for your own fleets are horrible and not easy (at least for me).

I should probably just re-sub EvE and go back to leading fleets of players. That was kinda like what I want, except the "AI" was a bit rubbish at times... :p

But yeah, you can't just "save" your game in EvE if you have to rush out or something, once you settle down and get something together, you're going to have to be there a few hours at least. :(

EPIC was truley EPIC - I remember that game for my Amiga. I agree we need another XvT or Wing Commander. We also need a new Star Wars Jedi Knight.

To me Homeworld is still the ultimate RTS. The control system was perfect, that trying the second game was a real struggle for me becuase they changed the control mechanics.

Still we can hope for a third.

Mass Effect is good, it's got some of the feeling of the non-craft parts of Wing Commander, dialog is too linear though and too few decisions that have real impact on the outcome.

Fingers crossed for Mass Effect two!

I think people just got picky, and started pointed out the foibles of all products and ideas rather than focusing on their intentions or the feelings they spawn.

Just like how I'm going to ignore this topic and simply state that it's 'why are there no good games anymore', not 'is' :P People don't appreciate things for what they're worth anymore when we expect patches, updates and DLC to pay lip service to our desires.
