Why is there no good games anymore?

Yes, bring back 'PC' games in general. You know, with the stats tweaking, inventory filling, micro managing, point and clicking and other things ending in ing!

I don't want Crysis, I want Syndicate, X-Com, Freespace, Homeworld, Baldur's Gate and Grim Fandango!

I blame WoW (hopefully said out of earshot from the flock of sheep in the Cataclysm thread).
I played it pretty much exclusively for 3 years and have now got a bit sick and tired of it, however every time I try and get into a new game I just cant as it doesnt grab me as much as WoW used to (before it sold its soul to the "skillfully challenged" it caters for now).
The only game I recently enjoyed was Modern Warfare, and I'm greatly looking forward to the sequel, but... bleh PC Gaming really isnt as much fun as it used to be.

Could be that I'm just getting old and growing out of them :D

A lot of it comes down to what people expect from a game now IMO.

What previously was a large amount of extra features, and new and exciting things is now just commonplace. People expect DLC and patches and top of the range graphics and full voice acting and good multiplayer and good optimization and good replay value and to be something different while keeping the good parts of the better games.

With more being expected publishers and developers would have to fork out a lot more to get the game made, and unless it has a reputable name, such as the fallout series or call of duty, it is unlikely it is going to have money thrown at it.

I think tbh indie games are the next big thing for pc gaming, they're cheap and because people expect less from them they end up getting so much more than what they thought they would.

Console gaming killed the PC star.

It's all bottom line these days. The last game I thought was "good" was The Witcher. There have been cross-overs that haven't been too bad (KotOR, Mass Effect), however, on the whole, the Fisher-Price boys have ruined it.

I can't really blame the games companies for it, they are in business to make money, but the market has changed with the popularity of consoles; and we are worse off for it.

I thought it was linear, with pretty non-existant characters, poor shooting mechanics and a very generic inventory system with little variety.
I agree mate, thought it was a lot more linear than I'd been lead to believe from reviews (I only bought it last week). Combat was pretty dire too, however it does have a decent story, which is half the battle. They could expand on the game universe and story nicely in sequels!

x2 or x3?

Control system sucks. I always saw X as the type of game I'd like to play, if only it was 3rd person or some such thing. The combat in X never really done it for me. The fights also aren't really epic enough for my tastes.

Yes! Screw all that graphical self masturbation! I want to play something with hideous amounts of unit stat detail and customisation! :D

I've gotta give that a go when I get a chance.

Call of Duty 4?
:/

I think there are still good games out there but less come out imo since the current gen of consoles also including to a lesser extent the previous gen too.

Also it depends on your tastes, if you like various genres then the chances are good that there will be something worth playing on a frequent basis. If, like myself, you only tend to mainly delve in fps and fps/rpg then at times it can seem a little barren with not much to consider.

Because of mass pc piracy put simply, any idiot can download and play a pirated pc game with ease.

Any idiot cannot flash their 360 drive and pirate 360 games though.

So now we see games not even being developed for pc or delays on the pc versions of games.

It also cant help that the primary member of the PC gaming alliance also has a massive vested interest in buying up good pc games and making them Xbox exclusives.

Games take a lot longer to create now 3 years on average and need huge amounts of investment so that could explain why :)

this is the truest post here..... PC games have reached a level where nothing is new anymore.

Yeah, the new Call Of Duty game will be out soon and we'll all play it for a couple of months, but even though i haven't seen a preview or anything like that i know exactly what the game will be like and how it will play.

The WOW factor has definitely vanished with PC games - nothing new.

star trek bridge commander and star trek armada 2
old games but fun and with loads of ship blowin the **** out off each other

Ok, sorry, I'm not keen on player based RPG's.

I understand Fallout3 isn't what you're looking for, but FWIW I'm really picky about the games I enjoy these days... been there, done that a hundred times, it seems. However after a shaky start (the beginning's a bit dull and then I went through an 'oh dear, it's Oblivion in disguise' phase) Fallout3 has *really* captivated me in a way no other game has for years.

So if you get really bored I can heartily recommend it. It does, at least, have an SF theme. :-)

PS I really enjoyed Homeworld, but the novelty had worn off by HW2.
