Why is there no good games anymore?

There'll never be another Nexus: The Jupiter Incident. It was a masterpiece but it barely sold and at the end of the day money talks. Homeworld 3 is rumoured to be in the works though so here's hoping!

Theres a Star Trek online comming out soon which I'm looking forward to try. Never played Homeworld but Played the 2nd one which i thought was really good. Love those types of games. Wish there were more aswell.

I cant agree more with this thread. UT3 was going to be my savior however it came and died within about 3 days :(. What happened, what i loved about pc was the gaming communties, the clans etc, its somthing that although xbox is trying , it cant truely replicate, and therefore team games (cod etc) are never turely at the same level as they are on pc..

Thats my belief anyway.

I have actually never heard of any of the games you listed :o

And there are plenty of 'good' games in my opinion, depends on your preferences.

How could you have never heard of....

Homeworld, its one of the best RTS games ever and the best space based RTS ever created. (not played it in a while going to have to dig it out again)

Master of Orion / Master of Orion 2, is one of the best Turn based strategy games of all time (I still play MOO2 regularly which isnt bad for a game thats 15 years old)

Xcom (UFO, TFTD), The best squad based / turn based strategy ever. (These old dos games might look $£"% today but were amazing when they were released back in 1993) If you want a modern equivalent try UFO:ET

I suggest you go out and buy them NOW!!!! They are some of the best games ever created.

Have you tried the UFO series of games? Aftershock, Afterlight and Aftermath? I quite enjoyed them as a turn based squad based sci fi affair. I think Afterlight is the latest of the three.

I still have this game but I have never been able to get past the level early in the game where an enemy fleet starts attacking you. You have this nice shiney new alien warship but seems impossible to beat them. :(

I would recommend sticking with EVE. It's being updated all the time, and not many other space-type games (which seem to be your preference) get the same treatment. Basically, you've listed all the good games of that genre, so I have no more ideas.

Because of mass pc piracy put simply, any idiot can download and play a pirated pc game with ease.

Any idiot cannot flash their 360 drive and pirate 360 games though.

So now we see games not even being developed for pc or delays on the pc versions of games.

there has always been mass piracy and during the pc golden age it was really simple to copy a game CD because most of the time the protection was only a cdkey which wasnt required for online play anyway.

developers always use piracy as an excuse for poor sales but its just BS imo.

the same for music companies who blame mp3's even though it was easy to copy tapes and cd's anyway.

its sad when you look back 10 years and games were more advanced these days devs tend to keep things simple and aim games at a mass market even when they try a niche genre that obviously has hardcore fans who will avoid simple versions of the games they love.

lets just bash out another 100 COD/MOHAA clones for the next 10 years and blame poor sales on piracy! innovation and tunnel vision obviously isnt the issue at hand!

Well said that man.... unfortunatly (picking up on your final sentence) a lack of imagination and rampant tunnel vision is very present in many of the current generation of gamers. Chicken or egg argument aside, it would be hard at this stage for things to revert to the golden age, as "quirky" masterpieces simly dont appeal to the masses any more.

Not huge no.

Your average PC gamer will be more than capable of getting hold of cracked games.

Your average console user will not have a clue how to flash their console. I'm sure even the average PC gamer would struggle.

what a load of tosh!!!! there's far too many 'good' games and not enough time in the day !!!

Demigod, Sins of a Solar Empire, Hearts of Iron series, Warhammer DoW II, Company of Heroes series, Arma II, WaW, TF2, L4D, Lotro, Burnout, GRiD, rFactor, Bioshock, Anno 1404, X3: Terran Conflict, Dark Athena, BF2, ... i could go on but you get my point..

Quality over quantity, want churn get a console want games that can last decades invest in PC hardware .. :p

which is why people charge for the service which has been happening on a large scale since the playstation.

even some shops did it and some probably still do

my mum can get pirated games and films from the hospital she works at and shes old enough to have a free bus pass ;)

no doubt if she was into gaming she could get an xbox360 chipped

because consoles dont have huge piracy problems?

Piracy isn't even possible on the PS3 and with the 360 you have to void the warranty opening it up and potentially risk getting your console banned permanently from xbox live. It's happened to several people that used copied games on their 360s in this forum, the only solution there was was to go out and buy a whole new console. On the warranty front, lets not forget the 360 is incredibly unreliable so losing the 3 year warranty isn't exactly an appealing option to many.

You only have to compare the number of downloads on torrent releases of the same xbox and PC game to see the difference. Last time i looked it was typically 3x the number of downloads for the PC version.
