Why is there no good games anymore?

Lol do you not agree that piracy is more rife on the PC than consoles?

All PC gamers do is moan to devs about patches, price of games how the 'community' is ignored etc. I'm not surprised they've *****d us off to cater for the console market where they can charge for DLC and less people hacking/stealing their work.

£55 for COD MW2 on the Xbox.....

what a load of tosh!!!! there's far too many 'good' games and not enough time in the day !!!

Demigod, Sins of a Solar Empire, Hearts of Iron series, Warhammer DoW II, Company of Heroes series, Arma II, WaW, TF2, L4D, Lotro, Burnout, GRiD, rFactor, Bioshock, Anno 1404, X3: Terran Conflict, Dark Athena, BF2, ... i could go on but you get my point..

Quality over quantity, want churn get a console want games that can last decades invest in PC hardware .. :p

....and how many of those that you listed are of the type that I was enquiring after in my OP? One, SOASE, which I already own.

I am simply replaying older games..currently GriD and The Witcher to pass the time.
I'll get the FO3 expansion packs (haven't played any of them yet) and return to the Capital Wasteland later this weekend. Hopefully that will be some fun.

I have FarCry2 and Deadspace unfinished and waiting to be played...but I am so apathetic to both games that I don't feel like even starting them up.

I really hope NFS:Shift turns out to be good...

i never said the pc has less piracy than consoles, i simply stated that consoles are also plagued by piracy.

games with really good multiplayer that required a unique cdkey bound to an account never had much of a problem with piracy.

sure there were always cracked servers for bf series etc but not that many apart from at the initial release because most people saw the games were worth it and bought them

PC piracy isnt as big a problem as people seem to think it is, the pc market is just more picky.

Good PC games sell very well, bad games dont (the publishers then blame piracy)

Lets look at L4D, its sold over 2.5million copies in the shops plus an unknown number of copies from steam.

Given that valve gave a presales estimate of about 4million (most of which would have been from steam) i would estimate that its sold about 8million copies of which about 6.5 million would be PC sales.

Isn't L4D an online game that requires online authentication? If so then it is a bad example to choose for piracy. Single player games would be a better bet.

most pc users dont want games that are single player only they want coop and a decent online mode,
single player games that last for maybe 6 hours arent worth buying

This is a good read on COD4 sales figures

It also points out something that is completly missed when piracy is talked about.

PC titles are long term and good games will continue to sell well for years after release (infact many people including me dont buy games until the price starts to drop). Console games only really sell well for the first year then thats it.

There are plenty of good games on the market, maybe not good enough for you. You also do not get good games on consoles every month, its same as with pc games, you get good pc games only few times a year and most of the time these are different genre so not up to everyone's taste.

I think it's more good games in general. I mean look at the PS3 in it's entire lifespan there's only really a handful of exclusive must plays. The rest is just generaly tosh really. Same with the 360.

No, I definitely remember in years gone by that there used to be many PC game releases that I "must" buy and play.

This year I can count them on one hand. :(

I think tbh indie games are the next big thing for pc gaming, they're cheap and because people expect less from them they end up getting so much more than what they thought they would.

Agreed! It's starting to remind me of the whole PD scene from the Amiga days. I used to love buying games from PD libraries and more often than not, being pleasently surprised.

you made a sensationalist thread title stating 'Why is there no good games anymore?' , i merely proved this point wrong and backed it up.

there are plenty of 'stat' games in my list and Sci-Fi based, but nvm

i suppose apatia77 hit the nail on the head with 'There are plenty of good games on the market, maybe not good enough for you' :p

Well for starters part of the problem is the timeframe you are looking at, "this year". We're only in August, and it's common knowledge that the most prolific time for game releases is the run up to holiday season (October->December).

I don't disagree that there are good PC games at the moment, but they certainly aren't the type of games we were playing when the PC was at it's best. Look at any top 10 PC games thread and you'll see plenty of references to titles like X-Com and Planescape etc and few to recent releases. This isn't only nostalgia speaking - these were the games that made PC gaming so unique and are the types of games we don't get anymore.

Look at when the 360 came out, about q4 05 I'd say? Since then, inevitably it has made an impact to some degree.

I remember in 2006 I think I bought around four titles which wasn't only down to the increasing 360 sales but it must have played a part.

As gamers we change too, our preferences, what we're prepared to pay for a game and other things etc. For example, COD WAW is a game I'd like to play but I am not paying what is £30.00 on some sites atm, no way. A few years ago I wouldn't have cared about the money and just shelled out for it. I'm a little older now and as a gamer and a person, I have changed.

Also, what someone else wrote re: the time of year affects what's on offer, right now we're coming to the end of the kipper season so we should see quite a few coming out later on so that's some good news;) :D

So to sum up I'd say its a collection or sum of parts that make up the situation and to an extent we are part of it.

Which is funny, as the OP is looking for good SP games...

Again, a game with a very heavy multiplayer component that certainly leads to it's longevity (The single player was quite short really).

I hope Mafia II's looks excel on the PC over the consoles, without the troubles GTA IV had.
Also Simultaneous releases for consoles and PC.
Also a release this year.
