Why is there not a specific term for religious discrimination?

It's called religious bigotry. Intolerance, discrimination, ect... You don't really need a label for that.

You cannot discriminate about what people are, where they come from, ect... No matter what you do, it's not gonna change the fact anyway. Arguing about what people think, believe, political allegiance, what football team they support that's another matter. No need to be an ******* about it though.

People who mock religion should be called 'Common Sensists'. Or 'Exposers of Ridiculismists', maybe 'Feet Firmly on the Groundists'?

We all know how well religion does at bigotry, be it towards atheists, gays or other religions. For me, religion is bigotry.

The best bit is it's not the religion that is bigoted just the indviduals in most cases as nearly all the major religions speak out against discrimination and tell us to love they neighbour etc. Descrimination and bigotry is almost always down to an individual be they part of an organised religion or not.

Well sexual preference is a choice as much as religion is, although homosexuals will often disagree and say its not a choice, they are free to disagree and i'm free to choose if i want to be a homosexual or religious or not.

So what about homophobia?

It can be argued (and rightly so) that sexuality isn't a choice. That makes it a physical attribute.

People have the right to criticise other peoples ideas and beliefs (and they have just as much right to defend them) but criticising attributes like race, sexuality or gender is inherently wrong.

So you can choose to be attracted to the same sex? That's a clever trick. Most people have no conscious choice of who (or what) they are aroused by.

That is just something homosexuals tell themselves. The trick is that they convince themselves they have no choice in the matter.

I very much doubt homosexuals managed to convince themselves they were gay when they otherwise wouldn't be.

yup, as said already, religion is a choice, if you want to believe in make believe stories, then thats fine.

dont then expect there to be a term for someone who then discriminates people who like stories.

from the people i speak to that follow the great undying wizard. im going to hell for not believing in him. (not really sure why they tell me that tbh, the fact that i dont believe in him, means i dont believe in hell either, so basically its nothing) but i dont think there is a word about people discriminating against normal people either is there?

I disagree, the Abrahamic religions have an under current of misogyny and homophobia built in.

When did you choose to be straight?

Sorry but even today plenty of churches and senior members of various faiths are openly intolerant towards gay people... go back a few years and they were very intolerant. Similar intolerance was seen and justified towards black people in the USA only a few generations ago... there were also plenty of churches in south Africa completely complacent with the apartheid regime. The bible doesn't have much to say against slavery. Go back a few centuries and Christianity was worse than the EDL and sanctioned full on wars against Muslims in Muslim lands.

Organised religion has been a complete farce throughout history and frequently just used as a tool to control the population... its generally lagged behind morally though they do attempt to keep up and end up bending rules/reinterpreting them and essentially just making stuff up in order to keep relevant. Women then become clergy, gays are shown some tolerance, slavery becomes bad, segregating black people becomes bad... at some point in the future the Catholic church will catch up with the times and some Pope will declare that contraception is actually now OK (albeit, no doubt, with some random constraints).

The fact is lots of people are stupid and believe in these fairy tales... as education levels increase and society progresses then future generations will look back at things like Christianity with a sort of WTF did people believe that nonsense in the same way we perhaps look at some primitive African villagers who go see the magic healing man when they get sick.

i disagree its a choice. the amount of **** gays get why would they choose it? people were put to death for it - do you really think gay men think 'well, i know i could die for bumming but im going to have a crack anyway'????

religion is 100% a choice. since there is nothing in your brain/chemistry etc that makes you believe in fairies. its pure indoctrination be that from parents or other areas (schools etc)
