Why is there nothing like quake or timesplitters around anymore?

Perhaps they're two different kinds of multiplayer but they're the two that come to mind when i think about classic multiplier on pc and console, it feels like it's been quite a few years since we've seen either a fast paced classic multiplayer like quake or silly but good fun one like timesplitters, i know there's stuff like tf2 and serious sam but they're different and neither of them appeal to me in the same way as quake 3/elite force or timesplitters/goldeneye did, what's going on?

It was one of the first games that I could - and frequently did - just sit and play for hours and hours and hours on end. The multiplayer was just a total winner.

Somehow got bored of multiplayer? FINE - here's a challenge to smash all the windows on Chinese using only bricks :)

Bored of THAT?! OK! Endless hoards of zombies and only a shotgun :)

Just, the best thing ever.

I remember this! Also setting fire to snowmen :p

Is this the game that was developed by some of the people that made perfect dark ? what were the sequels like ? i remember the original been pretty awesome.

I never played perfect dark zero either, did it manage to capture the same feel as the original or was it lost in all the format changes, didnt it go from N64 > Gamecube > XBox before it was released ?
