Why is this crow doing this?

I think they're stones, I can't imagine a snail sounding like this when dropped. He also stands on the skylight when he does it, he doesn't do it from a height.

There are some crows that nest in a tree just over from my flat and it's really interesting to watch just how smart they are.

I've watched them hide food in places on a roof below me, which they will later come back for. I also left out some stale bread once, which one of them took to a puddle and made it moist to swallow.

I also notice that if pigeons or seagulls stray into their territory, they will see it off.

I think some people think they are big scary birds, but compared to other buildings in my area, we don't have any issues with pigeons, because they don't dare land here!

I have always pondered on the comparison between Corvids and Pigeons.

Pigeons are superb navigators and flyers but they are also thick as ****!

Corvids, by comparison are actually scary, you can see them thinking!

Drive along the road and if there is a pigeon he will either sit there and wait to be run over, or he will explode in a panic of feathers and fly straight up into your windscreen.

Crows, on the other hand, will wait until you are about six feet away and then hop nonchalantly 18" to one side and look dismissively at your wheels as they thunder by only inches away.

(Its a hruddudle, it is a Man thing. they are not dangerous, you just have to keep out of their way ;))

I saw a crow a couple of months back sitting on the roof of a range rover pecking away at it. It was really banging away hard, you could hear it like someone hammering a couple of hundred yards away. The car had a glossy black glass roof, and I assumed it was having a go at it's reflection for a good ten minutes. It came back later and had another go at the roof of a glossy white car.

The totem of Crow according to Native tradition:

Crows are the keepers of the Sacred Law
and to have a Crow totem is very powerful.

Personal Integrity are your watchwords and your guide in Life.
If you have a Crow totem, your prime path
is to be mindful of your opinions and actions.
You must be willing to walk your talk,
to speak your truth and to know your life's mission.

Crow is a omen of Change.
Crow lives in the void and has no sense of time,
therefore, it sees past, present and future simultaneously.
Crow merges both light and dark, both inner and outer.
It is the totem of the Great Spirit and must be respected as such.

They are symbols of creation and spiritual strength.
Look for opportunities to create and manifest the magic of life.
Crows are messengers calling to us
about the creation and magic that is alive in the world today
and available to us.

Pigeons are actually very intelligent birds. My mum really likes them and puts food out for them every morning, which I never normally did when I lived at home with her. They learned to come at a particular time every morning when she normally fed them: they'd all be waiting on the roof. Interestingly, when my parents went on holiday several years ago she asked me to feed them, which I did at the same time as her. Despite me having the same food in my hands, they were considerably less eager to come down and get it when I had it, so they obviously could tell the difference between me and her, which is quite intelligent I reckon.

She showed me this a while ago: it's quite an interesting film, and shows their intelligence isn't limited to just finding their way home.

i'd think snail, unless as others said he was just playing. i was walking up the street one morning and there was a rhythmic banging somewhere. turned the corner, was a crow on on the street lamp w/ something in his beak, banging away at the light shade like Lars Ulrich, happty as larry. paused, looked at me, carried on. i assumed it was a snail, but you can't tell w/ crows.

i'd say you'd know it was a Raven straight off; they're bigger and have heftier beaks. Also well known for being loopy buggers when the mood takes them:

Thank you for that link, it was very interesting.

Don't get me wrong, I rather like Pigeons (And collererd doves too)

(You do not really appreciate how big they are until you see them jostling for food on the bird feeder next to the sparrows and bluetits.)

But despite their amazing abilities, they are nowhere near the Corvids in the smarts department.

(Actually, why are corvids so smart?? What drove their evolution?? Ho Hummn)
