Why isn't Robot Wars on TV anymore?

I used to love that show! Although I was always disappointed that no one invented & entered a working terminator robot that just destroyed everything.

Hmm .. robots ... should I post an update on Crazy Ivan.. which you may remember looked

Crazy Ivan now sees in stereo, I've worked (and I still am) working with the company on the stereo version of this robot.
Firstly the skunkworks..

Then the prototype PCB that developed on from that whilst working with the company that makes the SRV1 in the US.

I'm currently working on the inter-coms between the two "eyeballs" as each of the eye balls has it's own CPU, ram and camera. The left eyeball also controls the wifi, motors (for tracks) and both eyeballs can control servos.

You may remember the volumetric application: picture here

This now has a sibling - the Mac OS QuartzComposer plug in which will allow quick prototyping of image processing algorithms such as Optic Flow: Big picture here

So it may not be taking an axe to other robots.. but it's possible that it may be in future without being remote controlled...

Robot wars was good but was only worth watching when the really well engineered robots were on, such as Razor & Hypnodisc IMO.

Some were just really poor and quite dull to watch.

I loved Robot Wars.. when Hypnodisk first made an appearance it was intense!

I lost track of it soon as they added a new house robot.. the one with the massive hammer, and no.. not Sir Killalot.

Its because it became boring.

The robots where so powerful but they never managed to do much damage.

You had that robot with the massive scorpion tail thing at the front that could crush a robot. Yet you never saw them use it.

It was like taking a really good looking women home to find out she was wearing a wonder bra and everythings hit the floor.

They need to make it more gritty and lets the robots rip the hell out of each other.

There is another robot wars type of thing where projectile weapons etc are allowed but they're BB guns, also mini missles with pyrotechnic rocket engines are allowed; flamethrowers too but you have a severe penalty for having them (I suppose some damage is ok but a completely fire gutted/melted bot isn't.

What's really geeky is that I remember spending (literally) hours browsing the Robot Wars Webring (remember those? Does anyone still use webrings?) circa '98/99...Then later reading all the runup to hypnodisc's debut.

Weirdly, at the same time, the states' Battlebots were so much further ahead than ours.
