I'm back baby!
Why must micro chips be cooked from frozen?

I have some defrosted microwaveable chips (oh the joys of nightshifts!) to eat with a home-made meat and tatey pie, but I thought they'd be fine defrosted, however the package states that they must be cooked from frozen.

I can't think of why.

Having them already defrosted (and therefore soggy) will make them immeasurably soggy when microwaved?

Stick some kitchen roll around them to soak up some moisture?

Okay...

I've never had a problem microwaving them at any phase. However, I do have a problem with buying them as they're rubbish and expensive.

The cooking time will be too much for them now that they have defrosted - they'll probably explode, or erm, burn.

I thought that this thread was going to be about the other type of micro chips..

Yeah I think it's just the soggy factor. You could cook them for slightly longer to bring the moisture out maybe? I dunno.

Is it even possible to get non-soggy micro chips? even from frozen?

Yeah, they've come on leaps and bounds in the past several years. They can be quite nice now (though these ones I have here certainly aren't, they're just something to accompany my pie).

They'll be coming from a warmer temp though, so that'll even out.

I left the "soggy" scale open to interpretation.

I've only ever had one Micro Chip (not a pack, just a chip). It wasn't good, so I've never felt the need to buy expensive packs of them to investigate further.

The only thing we use the microwave for is defrosting.

Outer layer with it's coating of fat get's hot enough to scorch as the inside reaches temperature probably. Can't you get a pizza place to deliver some real(ish) ones?

Anyone remember "fries to go" (i think), that were long/slim chips in little individual slots in a cardboard/microwaveable sleeve?
They were more crispy than microchips, but tasted pretty bad, like cardboard.

Right, well in the interests of science I'm gonna try them from room temps.

FYI they were rubbish from frozen. I'm not thinking they'll get better not being from frozen but hopefully they won't get any worse.
