Why? Micro-chips

Anyone remember "fries to go" (i think), that were long/slim chips in little individual slots in a cardboard/microwaveable sleeve?
They were more crispy than microchips, but tasted pretty bad, like cardboard.

Yep, I used to have those when I was little, good with omelettes and stuff. Still around actually, or at least they were in my first year of uni.

Micro chips are an example of good marketing. The chips are just normal chips, but calling them micro chips makes them sound special. You can cook "oven" chips in a microwave - if you put them in the right kind of box.

Corned beef hash is soggy.

Looks and smells like Kit-e-cat too so might not be the best example.

Got plenty of food here. 3/4s of a home made meat and tatey pie, a full home made apple and blackberry pie, some ham sandwiches (wholemeal bread/best ham), pickled onion monster munch, brioche, wine gums, and Haribo tangfastics :)

Far more than I'll eat in the 2 nightshifts I have left!

I'm jealous, stuck at uni and we need to go shopping. We have a tin of beans and thats about it. :(

could be because of bacteria, like with some oven meals that should be cooked from frozen, leaving certain food above certain temperatures allows bacteria to multiply, and some bacteria (particularly spores I think) will not be killed when the food is cooked in the microwave

Yeah, they've come on leaps and bounds in the past several years. They can be quite nice now (though these ones I have here certainly aren't, they're just something to accompany my pie).

do they do those nice chunky ones now in the bigger boxes? they used to for a bit and stoppe,d they were sooo nice.

Why must micro chips be cooked from frozen?

I have some defrosted microwaveable chips (oh the joys of nightshifts!) to eat with a home-made meat and tatey pie, but I thought they'd be fine defrosted, however the package states that they must be cooked from frozen.

I can't think of why.

Do you intend to overclock them?

:)

The bog-standard McCain ones havn't changed. They're just as bad as they're always been. Havn't tried any of the more expensive varieties though. Just doesn't seem worth it when you can get a whole sackfull of decent oven chips for even less money.
