I've been ordered to buy a new setup and thought to hell with it lets go for it ! :p

So is the QX9650 worth buying now ??? Or should I wait for the rest of the Yorkfield cpu's to be released ?

It will probably outlive a few mobo and ram upgrades and the unlocked multi would always be good :D

I would have waited.

But having looked at your sig, you can prob afford it :p It makes me cry inside with envy :(

Its the end of the line for LGA775 socket and CPU's after Penryn, so its not going to survive an upgrade. Putting money into DDR3 Ram is probably better bet, though the prices should come down next year.

No way is DDR3 ram a good investment right now. The prices are sure to crash. Fact is that the QX Yorkies are going to be the last and fastest CPU's for LGA775. That in it self will mean they will hold thier value reasonably well.

You will love the QX9650 duc999. It blows everything else away! Mostly the money in your wallet but meh.

If he gives the bill to the taxman, Does that mean WE are paying for his new CPU?

No it doesn't mean that YOU are paying for it. ;) And you'd be astounded at the tax I pay anyway to keep all the bloody students in the lap of luxury ;):D

What i meant was I either buy the CPU as a company asset or just give the money to the taxman, so no need to worry :p

Cheers for info weescott although it is the end of the LGA775 socket CPU's so I might just hang on but its very sorely tempting to buy it now as its not a bad investment for selling on.

Meh indeed ;)

Can't remember the last time I bought something that wasn't a company asset:D

Will 45nm be using DDR2 RAM as well or just DDR3? Have a Gigabyte DQ6 which supports future 45nm CPUs but don't want to invest in new mobo kinda like current and DDR3 RAM is going to be slow as hell initially so rather stick to a good low latency DDR2 RAM :)

Will 45nm be supporting DDR2?
