The review of it here shows a 430 core, and the GTO16 appears to run the same 2.0ns Samsung ram, the only difference is the on board power connecter. Apparently some of the Connect3D GTO's unlocked to 16 pipes on a 430 core but I cant find any pics of the card to see if it has a power connecter or not.

Most of the new GTO's will be running the R430 core and IIRC the new GTO2 and GTO16 are basically just rebadged X800XL's.

Just found some pics of the Connect 3D model and that too has the power connecter, I would imagine then thats what makes the difference between unlockable or not.

Guess that means 2.5ns mem?

Having major problems getting this card to work, keeps locking up when it gets to the login screen after ive installed the drivers, works OK in VGA mode or safe mode.

Not sure what it could be doing? Get some errors about cats not installed properly but ive tried 2 sets and ran driver cleaner....

Anyone help?

Which card did you get, the 128mb or 256mb version.

What was your last card, the 9500???

Yes it was, I have since done a fresh reinstall of XP but if I load the CATs it will lock up within a minute of trying to do anything, like insatll stuff, open My Computer. The only way I can get XP working is to uninstall the CATs. This is driving me nuts, cant understand it. BIOS is set to PCIE.

BTW i have the asrock dual board, its unclear if i need to install any drivers for PCIE or if it is native support?

EDIT: its the 256mb version.

What Cat's are you using, what ones are on the CD? I normally ignore whats on a driver CD and go with the latest from manufacturer website, which is 6.3 I think.

Yep, ive tried latest, and also 5.12s.

This is ridiculous, it works fine without the drivers installed, as soon as they are it will just lock up...

Well on checking ATI tool and going by other guides it wont unlock, regardless I am having bigger problems than just that, so its a moot point...

What power supply are you using, how many hard drives/optical have you got, I know the X800GTO isnt a powersucker but its worth eliminating all options

350w PSU, 1 DVDwriter, 2 hard drives, thats it. Pretty sure thats enough juice for it. 9500 pro needed an extra power cable to it.

Branded or unbranded 350w, that is running it quite tight if its unbranded, you could try taking the non-boot hdd off and the optical and try installing cats again

I had problems with a X800XT because a unbranded 500w couldnt handle it and it would crash when trying to load drivers, stuck in a tagan 480 and all was fine.
Worth a try mate.

Well, thats a fairly expensive thing to try

Unplugged extra HD and DVD drive and it still locks up....

Do you mean it locked up after you had installed drivers or during install?

during install, easy way to check is to find out who made the psu and what the amps are on the 12v line, should say on the sticker on the side. If the amps are low that could be why its locking up.
