15 amps on the 12v+, is that enough?

Its a Levicom PSU, so I guess that rates it as "unbranded" (although has never given me problems in 3 years)

Thanks for your help by the way :)
Levicom are not the best Im afriaid. I had one myself, it didnt cope with heavy systems.

Hi Mate,

The ram was new so thats quite a nightmare, I have been through a bad patch with money over the last few months so was looking forward to upgrading from 512mb ram + X600pro to 1gb ram + X800GTO lets just hope I can get the ram swapped easy enough.

As for the card, im not sure where it would be locked, I have read through a lot of threads also and the word is they are X800GTO16 or X800XL cores with 4 pipes hard locked, I should be able to get hold of a pci-card, so I may try flashing it with a GTO16 bios, if it fails I can use the pci card to flash it back.
Same here, had a xp2200 for years, so this was the final part to a new build, still at least you have some ram to keep working with, good thing about upgrades really.

If the card is laser cut then where would the cut be? on the GPU itself? Maybe a BIOS will do it...

Still not sure on this Hynix memory and its rating

Im slowly gathering :p although its lasted this long OK, still its been time for an upgrade anyway.

but r430 cores are 16 pipeline anyway, or most of them are, so i doubt it lol. isn't it the r423's that are 12 pipline parts?
R423 is what I got in my connect 3d x800gto (now at 16 pipe 550/550 watercooled). It was originally for the x800xt, the x850 series came out later; but the R423 is a higher end part than the r430.

OK, took the HSF off at lunch, this is whats hidden under it:

Radeon x800 PRO

R430
215RBCAKA11F
N17015.00
0513AAP

Anyone care to shed any light on that? :)

EDIT

http://techreport.com/reviews/2004q4/radeon-x800xl/index.x?pg=1

has almost the same core as mine, no external power connection and is a x800xl

EDIT again,

some forums seem to say its hard locked, but I'm not 100% sure.

Have u tried to get a screenshot of the settings info in ATItool?

This is what you are looking for to check if it can unlock.

all the GTOs have 12 pixel pipelines. they actually have one of the best performance/price ratios in the market!!
its possibly the same card but different brand, like in supermarkets. asda cornflakes are cheaper than kellogs'
Kellog's don't make cornflakes for anyone else! Trust me, I'm a cornflake expert! also (honey > sugar) :)

Hi,

yes I did look when I first got the card, but no screenshot, I remember it was something like:

----?---
-------E

And IIRC E is 1 quad pipes disabled permanently. But I will look on the card again later to see if there is a laser cut on it now I know where to look for it.

Hi

I been playing with my new powercolour X800GTO 256mb

I also had major problems getting this card to work, keeps locking up and rebooting when it gets to the login screen, works OK in VGA mode or safe mode.

I had to use a PCI card to get into windows. I was seeing errors about cats not installed properly not seeing the video cards etc, I tried 2 sets and then forced the drivers to load and now all working OK with games.

My card comes with the Hynix memory KOR HY5RS573225 FP2 539A and ATI tool reports R430 core.

I was hoping that I could unlock the extra 4 pipes if not laser cut, using a powercolour X800Xl or X800GTO 16 Bios

Thats the same problem I was having, how did you get it working properly then? How can you force it? Did you add new hardware and point it to the catalyst files?

You have the same memory and core as me, so Im not sure about unlocking it, Im a bit dubious about flashing the gfx card (even though ive done it before) as knowing my luck it will get borked.

I used the Device Manager in the System Properties.

I used the drivers in the ATI folder that was unpacked to the "C Drive" when I tried to load the Cat 6.3 software and then updated drivers for each display adapter.

For good measure I re-run the cat 6.3 software and this time it worked.

Hmm, sounds like it mmight be worth a shot, although I would have to use my agp card to test it with. Saying that, could i just plug it in now considering Ive got the drivers installed for the 9500 Pro card?

Have you done any 3dmark runs to test stability?
EDIT what PSU have you got?

I have played games with no problem

I have run 3dmark to test stability

3dmark 2003 Score 9476
3dmark 2005 Score 4400

PSU Seasonic 600 Watts

Simon

Got the 128mb version, 9500 in 3dmark 03 with a slight overclock and a pentium D @ 3.1ghz.

At first it was a bit weird, artifacts without the drivers installed, but once they were installed (6.3) it worked fine

Not bad for a second system, although the PSU now doesnt have a enough juice so that has to be replaced  :p

BruceLee - have you had a chance to look at the card core to see if the 4 pipes have been laser cut?

I looked and couldnt see anything so it must be on-die

Still having the same problems as before, when ever I install ANY Cats for the card it completely locks the system up every boot :(

Probably the motherboard but I cant be sure. Card was Ok in other system.

Any other ideas guys?

Try reinstalling the motherboard drivers, its the solution when u get "install cannot continue, install standard vga driver". Worth a shot.

HI, thanks for replying, well my 9500 Pro using AGP is rock solid on this board, no crashes at all, the only problem is when I chuck the x800 in and install the drivers, after its rebooted it will lock up within 30 seconds, even if I am not doing anything, I cant even get it to load anything, or browse folders.

Going to borrow my mates 6800 PCIE card and see what that does... :(

EDIT:
Ive reinstalled all mobo stuff, even used different versions, nada..
