Why Upgrade?

Iv recently in the last couple of years got back the bug of computers ever since my last pride n joy the comm amiga 512k, these days im adult with young kids who are very wise to technology,im happy with pac man and space invaders,but as far as i can see these xbox"sPS3 and Wii"s that we have will be the standard for any comp game programmers as they are the target mass to the marketing people,when I find a PC version of a game it is of no more quality than a consule version,yet are comps maybe running with multiple graphics cards and significantly bigger rams at a expense of many fold the consule value,I wonder and if anyone can give me reason to upgrade my pc beyond the need to browse the internet or listen to music?watch Films ect if its for family entertainment and does not need business applications.?
 
I wanted to read, but even for me (i have low standards when it comes to posts) that wall of text makes me look away!
 
Morba,the argument/dilemma i have is to look to invest sig more money in our hardware as to make it worth the extra investment,these days our spare cash is constantly being erroded by living costs making disposable income more important,there is a wall/balance between thecost of upgrading and sticking to consule,Ie how far will games go in the future, will they be looking at the pc market with sig more better qaulity or just go with mass market consuls?
 
You are right, for most games having Quad SLI and super overclocked 990X processors is way OTT. However the people who normally have enough money to do this do it because they can and not because they need to.

I have an i5 with GTX 460 1GB, by no means a super rig, but a powerful one, I use it to play games and I always will use PC to play games as to me FPS's suck unless you use KB + Mouse.

I do own a 360, but I only play it for games like Rock Band + Guitar Hero.

for FPS PC > Console by a mile.
 
Good reply Mason,FPS on KB,,Mouse are king compared to controller,but observing my son its second nature in fact illd go so far to say using a controller is completely hard wired in to his brain. we too have an i5 and 8GB rambut a 220GT nvidia which has never let us down yet,but i know it can be improved apon,But to make that jump with bigger case to fit quality graphics and power supply,then the dilemma of witch card or cards? just to play a game available on xbox,ps3 n wii,is it worth it?

Think the question is do I upgrade the PC or just let the kids play on the console.

I don't like consoles, but to be honest the kids will enjoy it, they will not learn so much as if they gamed on PC. Consoles de-skills the youth I think, I play COD x I am so pro.
You said "kids", so I am guessing more than one, could be a hassle if they both wanted the PC, at least with consoles they can play with each other..

Kinda wrong section, what case / PSU you got sure people can recommend something with a bit more oomph that will fit the criteria.
 
Gammawolf you are indeed correct,but as you say certain,older games in the back cataloge are no different,FPS are easy"r with keyboard n mouse but you can bet the big companys will like the Kinect add these to there portfolios,I can see in the future £100 or so purchase from the consule manufacter"s will match the KB n mouse,and with no one wanting to break ranks and try to develop something new all us pc people will be left with R"Royce"s while the fuel available will be two stroke!
 
lol input,my kids do both,they love pc when it comes to multiplayer its pc everytime,they both have pc"s,the xbox does deff suck as xbox live is all about extracting cash for little or nothing available,everything I buy now is PC oriantated if multiplayer is concerned,xbox live is only for the back catalogue,n everyone on live seems to be 8 yrs old from califonia which suits my son who is ten lol,our cases a small midi"s so little poss of much expansion without investment dont get me wrong i agree with you on the value of pc"s but gaming wise i would like to agree and am looking to do so in upgrades but to be honest pound for pound gaming wise i cant see the value? sorry about the lack of full stops lol
 
Why upgrade?

My reasons are usually because the software's requirements have outgrown my hardware, thus I need more advanced technology.

ChrisJSY i think answers my question,thank you,ill stick to the xbox for games,and use the pc for communication and of course the FPS until microsoft bring out something KB n mouse quality,apologies to everyone maybe your not as fit as me who can say all this in one sentence,or you didnt pass your a levels when it was all about qaulity rather than grammer.Cheers n bless

In answer to the OP, people do a lot more with their computers than simply play games. That, as well as the fact that building a PC from parts you choose creates a certain sense of individuality and pride, which unfortunately comes at a price.

Also, games look and run loads better!
 
digipeep,Ob you guessed any thinking person from stoke on trent would be a port vale supporter,we not all zombies from the set of the hills have eyes you know and i was blessed from being from a place called deptford in SE London and teddy sherringham and tony cascarinho are my heros miiiiiiiiiilllllllwwaaaaaaalllllllll! Zefan yeah thats true just same as bulding a car engine,thats the instinct what makes me want to upgrade but me sense tells me there is no benefit? Steve-h seem to be on my wavelenght can anyone give us a sig argument to upgrade now chrisiJSY says it all!
