Why we should sue Apple...

I've got one. Its still got the plastic screen cover that it came in and has a silicon case too. No scratches that I can see. And I've had that since the release. So I'm happy. I chuck it about and its fine. Scratch here or there I dont know, I dont pay that close attention. If I can see the screen then i'm happy.

Just don't worry about scratches. You keep it in its case its whole life and it never gets a scratch, but you also never see how "nice" it looks - which IMO is the main reason people buy iPods. You keep it out of its case and enjoy how it looks, and you get scratches. You can't win. Unless you don't buy an iPod and go for an alternative DAP with more features, that costs less, and doesn't look as nice so you won't need to worry about a few scratches. :)

my sony nwa is just as bad, its managed to get a nice collection of dust under the screen/cover :/ :(

thinking about it though its probly because i suck at looking after things

The case of my mini is scratched to bitsbut the screen seems to be in alright nick... Only about 6 months of wear and tear so far, and I don't take any care with portable music players. No i-skin or i-sock or i-bubble wrap... It's been dropped a few times and is still working fine.
The nano is the one that seems to be uber fragile, mates had his a month now and with limited use the screen is already scrathed and unreadable... I dunno how since he treats it like it was made of brittle glass.

Can you not send it back to apple and complain for a replacement? When you are paying a few hundred for a decent portable music player you don't expect it to become near worthless due to a crap screen.

but may not look as pretty to some of you.

I can honestly say that the IPod is the ugliest plainest looking MP3 player on the market. Its obvious that every other manufacturer has put efforts in to make their products more eye catching.

I can understand IPod video owners who want to watch last nights Coronation Street on a 1" screen being upset at a scratch but a scratch on a Mini/Nano screen isn't going to hurt one bit. I wish I could take a good picture of my Mini to show all its scars off - its fell on the floor at least 25 times while running, it's kept in a rucksack where it shares a pocket with keys, pens, inhalers but it still works and I can read the screen. I don't think my I-River H10 could have taken that punishment.

You can call iPods plain (simple) but I don't really think they can be described as ugly. There's nothing there to make them ugly.

I'm just furious. The iPod if a fantastic MP3 player but there is ALWAYS SOMETHING wrong. The iPod photo was good, but had sound distortion issues.

To be honest, I only really have an iPod because of iTunes. I like the idea of having a play count, and the music store.

...christmas day my sis gets up opens her new ipod mini.....lays it down (upside down) on a cardboard box pics it up 10 mins later scratch down the screen .....

Wow must be a world record that is, you sure it was 10 mins and not 9 or 11 mins??...did you time it to the nearest second?? :p

Sorry but seriously some of the stories in here are quite laughable if anything, and no its not because im defending the ipod....i would say the same thing about any other type of item out there like the xbox360....quite a few had problems but mines been good as gold from day one...so fellas lets keep it in perspective eh??.

I've decided I'm going to write to the trading standards. About 80 people at my school have either a nano, or a video iPod, and only about 2 of them had one with a scratch-less screen!!! It's pathetic.

Worth it? Or a waste of time?

They're not made to be dropped ;). The H10 is a hard drive player anyway so probably wouldn't be able to work after being dropped a few times, so yep the mini is pretty tough.

i rememberr my Zen touchhad a sticker on the back saying "for office use only"
and im sure my current zen sleek does too ( but i dont have it to hand)
does the ipod not have anything like this ? i susspect that would be their "out of jail free card"
but then again the ipod adverts dont exactly show normal office use lol, unless your place of work has a loose rollerblade policy :P
any such wanings ?

Without seeing a 2 week old nano you would hardly belive how bad they can get.

My nano was terrible after 2 weeks and thats with it in a silcon case. However after searchng other forums i found a good solution

First i polished the screen with Brasso, which takes the top layer of the plastic coating off, and seriously reduced the scratching on the Nano(almost look new).

2nd I got whats called An InvisbleSHEILD for it, i had to import it from the US, it costs about 15 quid in total, but its a scratch resistant flexible cover (around 0.5 mm thick i.e thin)that you apply to the Nano/Video Ipod, its got this adhesive backing on one side which starts to set when you use a soap/water solution (very little water/soap needed 0 danger to your ipod). When its fitted its almost invisible, you can see its there and if you applied it badly i assume it would look terrible but mine looks almost as good as new and far better than any other solution iv seen yet, and better yet no need for a chunky case which rather defeats the point of nano.

funny things is that i use to have a silicone case for the ipod nano but dirt gets into the case from the top part where theres no silicone protection and that use to scratch the back of my nano a lot but now i have an exim protector film on the front which stops the nano from scratching whilst still looking like the original thing.

i have since ditched the silicone case yet i dont notice as much scratches then when i had a silicone case. many of my friends seems to complain about scratches on their ipods, but then again most of them puts there keys in the same pocket as their ipods????

They deserve manky iPods just for being so... stupid

All I did was put my IPOD face down on a cardboard box and I don't know why it got scratched.

think it was like 10 min and 32 seconds......... im nt doubting the xbox360 isnt after all most of the polls by put forward tht it was only about 8% roughly tht were screwd up ............. but still the ipod did scracth none the less within to help you along in an approx of under 20 mins =)

Am I the only one whos iPod doesn't scratch really easy? I've had my iPod for a good 2-2(half) years (4g iPod 20g). From day one I used a blue iSkin with it and occasionally take it out of the case to give it a clean with some "ipod polish" I bought, and it still looks fairly new? Sure, there are a few v.minor scratches around the click wheel on the white and on the chrome, but nothing bad. This April I'm hopefully going to be a proud owner of an iPod Video 60gb (My music collection has just gone past 20gb not including videos from iTunes so I need it lol). Have you tried buying some iPod polish? I mean, I think it does a good job, but then again it's expensive so maybe Apple think
"Easily scratched ipod...... IPOD CLEANER!!!... even more big bucks!" I hope not, as I highly respect Apple as a company, but with all these iPod complaints I'm starting to think whether there products are of the high quality I once thought they were. Then again, iPods are made in huge huge quantities, and there is always going to be someone complaining and having problems. And you only really ever hear the bad things about an iPod, and not the good things :)
