Probably to be able to see smaller things on the screen that could be enemies or cars etc. Like with TDU when I'm doing a race and its busy, I'll get closer so I can see cars in the distance and then try and avoid them.

Why do Kamikaze pilots wear helmets?

Christ this one bugs me.

They dont wear crash helmets, they wore leather flying head gear, it keeps the head warm and has radio coms equipment inside.

Well actually they took out the radio coms in the end to keep weight down and running out of resources. They had to use hand signals.

Yeah but the point is they dont wear crash helmets, which is commonly thought. It was flimsy leather headgear.
