Hi all,

I have a Pug 307 2.0 TDI 110 (yes it is the worse car i have ever had and will never go puegeot again), Anyway this morning around 7am my wife went out to start it and it turns slowly a couple of times then just clicks a bit, I don't think it is the battery as when not cranking it all the lights and stuff work fine, I was wondering if it were anything to do with the Cold weather (-9 this morning and car is covered in snow), The car worked fine yesterday at around 12pm.

I have checked the coolant which is at minimum but not iced up, Oil is fine, What do you guys think it might be?

It will be the battery if it doesn't crank properly. :) Dashboard lights require rather a lot less current than a starter motor ;)

I will get the battery out later (a lot more of a chore than you would think, i first have to remove the air filter and a sturdy plastic box) and give it a good charge, also it isnt just the dash lights that are fine, The central locking works fine, the electric windows work fine (when not iced) and the front light on full beam seem just a bright as normal.

Oh and i forgot to mention i have my uncle come over and wack some jump leads on the car with no differance at all.

its a HDI 110 you mean, and yes, the 307 was quite possibly the worst car this decade in reliability terms. complete utter let down coming from the ever-so successful 306 platform.

starter motor knackered maybe? i'd whack the battery on charge anyway just to be safe.

One of the reason why i decided on the 307 was due to having a 306 diesel before which i loved and had no real issues with (until the cam belt went but i think that was the fault of the cowboy i got to change it), And you are correct its the HDI 110.

Gonna try to get the battery out when the wife gets home, Ever tried doing any work on your car when you have a speedy 3 year old running around you and getting bored? :)

It will be the battery - exactly the same thing happened on the wifes C3.

Could not start, some feeble attempts at cranking and then clicking. All electrics worked such as lights/locks/radio etc.

I knew it was the battery as it has been on its way out for 2 years but this mega cold snap killed it - new battery and all is well !

battery, mine was doing that. Bought a charger a couple of weeks ago, and that sorted it for a bit and this morning it slooowly turned over. Buying a new battery today.

did you try jumping the battery?

tdi 110 and hdi 110... woooo big difference!

yep.

Check the battery fluid levels and top them up if they are low.
Without sounding like I'm asking the obvious, how did you try to jump start it? How long were the leads attached to the running car?

My '92 Toyota Corolla Executive would not start this morning, or ten minutes ago...

When I turn the ignition, I hear a click/clunk sound. The engine turned over once or twice on one attempt this morning, but went no further.

Battery operation for central locking, headlights etc all seem fine. The anti-freeze top-up was a little low, so I've filled that back up.

Battery was bought this time last year, one of those 4-year guarantee "calcium" types from Halfords.

Sounds like I should try getting to borrow the magic battery booster from the in-laws' next door neighbour... :D

All fixed, I Charged the battery then it started fine, I have now replaced the battery which has cost another £100 added to all the money i have spend on this stupid car, Now i need to get an Anti-pollution error fixed that only allow's 2900rpm's before i can sell it, I had this problem before with it and spent around £800 on getting a new high pressure pump fitted (peugeot wanted around £1500) and the message came back again about 6 months ago and won't go.

DO NOT BUY A PEUGEOT 307!!!

Thanks for all the reply's though guys you definetly helped me fix the problem.

Sounds like my sisters car last yr,, we thought it was the battery cos it was turning over very slow, we got a new battery, no diff at all. ended out tobe the starter motor was buggered. Anyway glad its sorted.

Did you know a car batt looses its capacity as temps drop below 0c,, So If you havent a full batt to begin with, you may have trouble starting the car, if temps fall below 0c
