Why won't O2 do broadband in my area when everyone else does?

Bit confused here....

Looking for broadband for my gf's new house in Manchester. Checked SamKnows and all the preferred ISP's are LLU at her local exchange. I've done a bit of looking around, PlusNet I can get, TalkTalk I can get, Orange I can get, Sky I can get, BT I can get, however when looking at O2 (who subsequently have the best deal on for her) they are saying that they can't supply to her area even though I know for a fact that other people in the area have O2 broadband and that they have their own equipment in the exchange.

The only thing the O2 site is offering me is the 'Access' package which looks absolutely dung - I really don't want to have to go with Orange/TalkTalk as I've heard both of their customer service and actual broadband service to be really poor, and she didnt really want to have to pay £22.50 p/m for Sky Unlimited.

Is there any reason why O2 would be saying they can't give her broadband in her area? Is it possible her exchange could be oversubscribed or something?

£22.50 for sky unlimited? Presumably that includes line rental and so would be the cheapest (and arguably best - no traffic shaping) package available?

If you know that people in her street have O2 then it's probably worth calling O2 directly rather than going off Samknows info.

their kit will have a fixed number of connections and i guess they're at the limit. it makes far more sense for them to have LLU customers as they get more of the subscription than they do with access - a large chunk of that goes straight to BT because it's them providing the backhaul.

try the BE website (bethere.co.uk) and see what it says. they use the same kit as o2 but only provide LLU services. if that shows as available then something is up with o2's provisioning system.

Yes, O2 will more than likely be at their limit (not over-subscribed). Just all of their equipment will be filled up, they should ideally be fitting more equipment at popular exchanges as they are losing out on business and profit by just turning down LLU business and letting them go on BT's kit.

Try BeThere like Marc said, still on O2 but again could be an online fault with their provisioning system.

Otherwise, could you look into fibre with Virgin maybe?

Go with sky. O2 llu is all traffic shaped now days and is £10 per month with sky talk and no tv. Also if u ring sky up direct they did offer me £119.40 for upfront line rental so a little cheaper than bt line rental saver. So works out £20 per month with sky and like rental.

Hi all, thanks for the replies.

I've spoken to O2 directly and the chap on the phone just said exactly the same thing. Sorry its not available in your area, even though I explained that I knew people living near by were on it (all on same exchange).

I've tried on Be's site but their address checker keeps saying service temporarily unavailable, so i've phoned them and the guy there is saying I am able to get Be Broadband fine. Surely is Be and O2 use same equipment both of them should be saying its not available!

Is there something fishy going on?!

Could be once they moved, the backend was connected to the next person signing up for O2 LLU and then no more capacity left again.
