Why?

The mere fact that most people hate using it is evidence enough, I'm not going to start fighting a battle of proof when it's so blatantly obvious just by looking at user feedback.

You can't start fighting a battle of proof because there is no proof, like I said right from the start it is down to 'personal preference'. What about the people in rp2000's thread who are saying they prefer the PS3 pad over the 360 pad, surely that is user feedback?

Sorry mate not having a personal pop at you, but all this carp about the PS3 pad being so bad really gets on my nerves, it's only a bad pad if its uncomfortable for you, but in my opinion (and that of many others) it is a fantastic pad, and the Dual Shock 3 has only improved on that.

If you ask the majority of PS3 owners (who actually have a PS3) I doubt many of them would have any real issues with it, admitidley there are some such as Nokkon (sorry to use you as an example mate but I know you hate using it :D) who have problems with the pad and that is perfectly acceptable, but there are many who have no problems with it.

If the stupid triggers went the right way there isn't a problem, just like there wasn't a problem with the last 2 version of the pad those triggers just completely nerf my grip on it.

Out of the people I know (myself included) with PS3 over half dislike the pad.

I'm not arguing over which has the best pad, both the 360 and PS3 have fantastic pads, nothing wrong with either of them imo. The 360 pad was better than the Sixaxis, but they are now equal (DualShock3). I'm merely pointing out that the 360 pad is no more ergonomically friendly than the PS3 pad.

I like it. I think the: "PS3 has no games" theory isnt plausible anymore, so now its the: "PS3s pad is pants". :p JOKE.

Oh come on, lets not go assuming one largely 360-majority forum is representative of the entire spectrum of console owners as a whole.

If there was enough of a problem with the Playstation style controller, I'd have thought Sony would have had enough complaints about it by now to offer an alternative. I mean, they switched the boomerang style one almost as soon as it was ridiculed after that E3.

I prefer the 360 pad, as do you. But I've also spoken to enough people that think the Playstation pad is fine, and really like it. Likewise, just because ergonomics is a general standard, doesn't mean it applies to everyone. Those with bigger hands than average will probably dislike the PS pad, and those with smaller will probably prefer it.

Surely you jest? It's been improved but equal to the best console gaming pad ever? Although I must admit I have never got on with the DS's always thought they were style over substance. Gamecube, Dreamcast and N64 were all comfier and more user friendly, don't even mention the dead zones on the analog sticks. I agree that the Dpad is crap on the 360 controller but the games I generally play only use it as a selection tool rather than the main interface.

In my eyes they are equally as comfortable, accurate and functional as each other. In your eyes obviously they are not.

Yet again...Personal Preference.

I can't think of any pad on any console I've really had an issue with, despite my love for the Dreamcast it did take me a while to get used to the size of the pad, the original Xbox pad was again way too large for me, and the Atari Jaguar pad was just wtf?

Did anyone get friction burns on there thumb after using the N64 analogue stick for a long period of time??? I swear the thing had a circular serrated pattern on the top.

Out of interest, did any of them have a PS2?
Did they dislike that pad too?

I'm only wondering, as Sony did manage to sell one or two PS2 consoles, and I don't recall people being so negative about the pads.

Since the PS2, the XBOX360 has come out, and people have had a chance to get used to the new controller, so now a year or two later, they're not used to the Dualshock layout any more?

Or is it being implied that, in your opinions, a better controller has come out, which automatically makes previous pad designs crap?

As I said, I have both controllers here, but get on better with the Dualshock pad, most likely, as I've been using one for many years.

The ergonomics suit me fine, and speaking of which, I use a Microsoft Natural keyboard, as they spent a lot of time and money, finding that most natural and comfortable shape for a keyboard. I wonder how many people who say the ergonomics are bad on the PS3 keypad (though they were OK on the PS2) are still using a standard, flat, keyboard layout to type in there, therefore holding their wrists at an unergonomic position?

V1N.

To be honest, the original CD32 keypad was a bit crap ;)
I had to buy a 3rd party one to replace it... which I still have, for my C64 :D

Both pads work for me. And I don't get these wierd hand cramps or sore hands that people are talking about.

Maybe it's not just down to the pad, But maybe hands too??

So many factors, but Inoshishis point is valid. Saying the PS3 pad is crap because it doesnt work for you, and some other people is not a fair arguement in saying its a crap pad Altogether.

Considering myself and plenty of people I know, haven't made a single complaint about the pad.

Hey! Maybe that 360 reliability isn't that bad argument can be used here.

People who don't experience problems with the pad are less likely to post/mention it than people with problems with the pad. Right? Right? :p

haha, Yes :D Love it, but damn it made my thumb sore.

While the PS3 pad has pathetic ergonomics that statement simple isn't true. Age (especially considering just a 10 year old design) doesn't mean its ergonomics are flawed.

True. In comparison to newer research, it's out-dated. Or in comparisons between East and West, it's out-dated.
