What are peoples views on widescreen gaming? Trying to decide if to get a 4:3 or 16:10 screen and I'm stuck in the middle. I know some games like Far Cry support WS and you can change the FOV so youe are actually seeing more on the screen but others like BF2 don't support it and you either have to have a stretched and squashed pic on a cropped one on the screen. How do people find this??
Quite like the idea of a WS but only really use my PC for gaming and browsing the net and l think is might be wasted and a normal 4:3 screen would be a better bet, but then some times I do watch the odd DVD too

Been on that site and know there are work arounds for the games that don't naturally support WS, just wasn't sure on what gaming was like in a game that has had the screen stretched and squashed to make fit - for example Battlefield.

if im not mistaken bf does support a widescreen resolution but i dont think its not native to my Acer 1916WS which is 1440x900

According to widescreengamingforum, BF2 can be made to work in widescreen res's with command line parameters, but you get less vertical FOV and normal horizontal FOV. So while it doesn't look stretched, you don't see any more either, in fact you see less in the vertical direction. So it would look 'zoomed in'.

You can always get a screen which does a 1:1 mode so you could run BF2 in regular 4:3 aspect ratio (using for instance 1280*1024 of the 1680*1050 pixels on a 20") and have borders down either side.

There not MANY games about now that cant do widescreen. For those that dont as said - a lot of monitors will do 1:1 pixels and put borders around. For the games that do support widescreen they really do look very nice :)
