Folks, I just recently upgraded to a 2080 Ti, and I thought Id run the old GTA 5 Bench...

I noticed I had bench results from 2 years ago for my 1070 as well...

The thing is... for kicks I tried to set my rig up the same way I did for the test I did back in 2018 with the 1070....

But the results were startling in that I wasnt getting better performance out of the 2080...
If anything it is worse...

So Im at a bit of a loss really on this....

(3dmark benches are in line with 2080 results circa 11k on Time Spy).

Any idea or thoughts folks?

Yep saw that and didnt both running it thinking that the 1070 settings would be more severe I think...
Ill run it to make sure like for like though... (its a fair comment by yourself bud).

Also check that your CPU and GPU clock speeds are going up to where they should, as well as checking temperatures and utilisation. I seem to remember having really poor GPU utilisation in GTA5 some time ago.

That is odd. I really want to say you're CPU bottlenecked, but there's no way you should lose performance from a GPU upgrade at the same settings.

Have you tried a bench with the settings cranked? Just see if it loads up the GPU more?

Thanks again bud... so I whacked up to full resolution and more AA plus max settings on most things...
GPU was hitting 93% and CPU was lingering around 50-67%.

So to me the below suggests that the game seems to not use the full potential of the GPU... unless you tax the GPU?

Would a reinstall of the game help or is this the nature of the game?

Interesting. GTA5 is an odd one. If you search for low CPU/GPU usage there's absolutely tons of posts about it. Looks like you are getting pretty good performance with it cranked though and it's making much better use of your GPU there.

Yep seems like it which kinda tells me that the bench for GTA is not going to be apples for apples even when using same settings.

Thanks for your help bud. You've saved me a lot of agro.

Interesting, I remember losing performance when I upgraded from a 2500k setup to a 5930k setup, both using the same SLI 980tis. I've not really played the game for a while but had picked up a 2080ti last year, running the benchmark I get similar results, mid 60s average and poor usage across the board. The game must not like certain configurations by the looks of things.

It's not saving my logs so having to go by eye, originally I was getting lows in the 50s, max of 80s and and average of mid 60s.

It's now lows in the 100s, max in the 180s and probably average well over 120fps.

On my 670 i got far smoother fps with adaptive sync on in nvidia panel. Dunno if thats any help. Also you could try setting gtav exe to high priority in task man.

Plus when you had a 1070 that was awhile ago, im sure updates adding more stuff or what not has effected it to prevent a good comparison between cards by now and drivers. Tho for sure ud expect better so i dunno. Maybe some shadowplay or gfe is interfering perhaps?

Also in your info it lists this "Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (6.2, Build 9200)" which isnt win 10 given the version it says but win 8. Are you on win 10 if so make sure you up to the latest version as it would be best for making the hardware work best for games.

Also your using 2x pcie cables from the psu to the card pcie leads and not one cable with two ends are you?

Btw msaa is a big hit, using fxaa and txaa with slider up would be just as good but lower performance impact.
