Wife's car stolen from our driveway overnight

Happened to my Corsa in Birmingham back in 2017. Nipped into Tesco, came out and the bumper was gone.

Like some idiot I spent a good 40 minutes walking round the car park wondering if it had just 'fallen off' at some point...
Did you face palm when the penny dropped? :p

Seems very odd that a 11 year old Fiesta is stolen. The risk for reward is not very good odds. Maybe stolen for joyriding?
I quite often see posts on local Facebook groups and the like about Fiestas being stolen. If it was STs, I wouldn't be surprised, but it's usually just run of the mill models, and as you say, not that new. I wonder why, just easy to get into I guess?

Someone at my old workplace had the driver's door stolen off their car ( I think Cavalier ) in the middle of a bright Friday afternoon in a busy work car park with security guards etc.

Well the settlement offer came in today from the claim agent. Fairly decent tbh, wasn't low balled as I anticipated, yet the wife is wanting to squeeze a bit more, so she's on the phone to them to have a discussion but I think they've pretty much set their valuation.

They do note in the claim that if we don't formally accept the offer within 2 weeks they will automatically settle the claim at their offered price, which is someone may wish to note in case it happens to them in the future.

If it's decent I'd probably take it and move on with your life. Hassle is overrated.

I bet if the police actually looked into those thefts it wouldn't take long to find the ones selling them on ebay.

They'll just give a crime number, car gets written off and then probably repaired using parts sourced from the same people stealing them.
They'll already have a good idea of who is involved, it's the same people over and over again. Unless they're either caught in the car, identified via CCTV or it's recovered and forensic evidence links them to it then it becomes rather difficult to get anywhere.

It's also worth noting that car thefts were down for many years so it dropped down or off the list of policing priorities for many forces, which means specialist teams, resources, training etc aren't maintained. Criminals are also more aware of forensics and tactics these days than they were in the past. They'll know what cars they want and have a stack of plates already made up from a dodgy website/dodgy garage/dodgy vape shop to stick on them within minutes of stealing it which makes it far more difficult to trace via ANPR.

We were planning to go from 2 cars to 1 car later this year, but this event has probably hastened this along a little. Definitely not buying a Fiesta :D
Fiestas are the second most stolen vehicle at the moment. Don't buy a Transit either; they're number one.

The only things that get stolen on my local facebook groups are tractors and combines. :D

We've settled on a valuation.

Payment should come through in a couple of days and then we can decide on a new car for us both to use. Ironically, it was better that it was stolen than traded in as we got more money that way.

She's not one to back away from having a conversation if necessary, so she doesn't mind asking the questions, so to her it wasn't a hassle.
