Wiggins Hour

Had it on the ipad, fabulous effort! Pacing looked fantastic. Wonder if he'll go again it wait until Olympics are over. Reckon he wants to get the overall including unofficial superman!

Can speculate if Cancellara would have beaten this all day his accident was as tragic as unnecessary. This is the modern marker, game on.

You disagree Jonny? Or was your edit aimed elsewhere ;)
No, I replied saying yes it was Indurain, trackside, but my phone didn't show me that the thread had a load more replies and it was too much effort to go back and edit it with a quote using the tiny screen :D

Who was the other old guy there? Looked familiar but I couldn't place a name.

He wont try it again that will be it

Wont be beaten anyway maybe Tony Martin would get close?

Well Tony Rominger went further (55.291km) on a similar bike/position and with the way the tracks and bikes have got faster that's got to be possible now considering Rominger wasn't a track specialist but was full of EPO.

He was interviewed by ITV before stage 2 of Dauphiné and it was one of the most awkward interviews I have ever seen. When asked if he thought it was do-able to break the new Wiggo record, he slumped away in a huff and never answered the question.

I know it would have been very tough for him to see his record go, but even he said he expected it to go. If he done the hour "within himself" surely in that interview that was his chance to say, "damn right it can be beaten"? It was odd.

That interview was so cringey!

According to the BBC article on that he completely disagrees with his coach. "I never asked for help but if i had i'm sure i would have got it."

Of course he was a bit shaken during the interview, he just lost a world record. Imagine if it was your strava KOM ;)

That seems a bit off, surely the bike is available off the shelf, its just a single component, the handlebars that are the custom part. Could easily be made available for anyone at unlimited cost.

I was there Sunday and have to say it was a superb event, never been in a velodrome before but it was awesome. Atmosphere incredible. Even got a free Rapha cotton cap to boot :p

About the record itself, not sure it will stand for a huge amount of time. Obviously conditions put paid to that. Had it been cooler, and lower pressure I reckon he could have turned it up in the last 10/5mins as well. I don't think it'll be too long before Dowsett has another crack at it.

I'm not much of a one for roadie-things, but is this something that they're going to make a big deal out of or not do people think?

I understand if it's meant to be a 'production' bike and not some hyper-unobtanium thing, but to me it's such a specialist indoor track-only bike that it's become a specific item now regardless surely?

Can't imagine they'll make a big deal of it. Plenty of things in the peleton that aren't widely available to the public. UCI largely turn a blind eye to it.
