Wii: COD3

Its meant to be in the same kind of ball park as the first xbox power wise. So we should see some nice looking games in 2007 and beyond.

I have to say, either the GC got underestimated or developers loved it because the graphics on it got pretty spectacular. Although it did hit it's limit recently I think (split-screen co-op Rogue Leader seems to push it a fraction too far).

The Xbox did have SOME sweet-looking games, I just always felt it never really made it's potential shine.

I have to say, although I've avoided CoD3 like the plague on the Wii, that looks like a load of mental fun. So much happening at once. Zelda is a given, but now I'm not sure whether to stick Red Steel AND CoD3 on the launch day buy list  :D

I've seen it with every console, Dreamcast, Ps2, Xbox, Gamecube, X360 etc ... you just know, deep down that most of the really decent games will be delayed.
Hmm the Xbox had Halo, PGR, Rallisport Challenge and DOA3 on release...

Gotta say £180 for a console with the power of an Xbox doesn't sound too appealing to me.

Whilst I agree that the Xbox launch was particularly strong (stronger than the Wii's from a purely adult PoV), I know you are well aware that the Wii is more powerful than the original Xbox... That and the control system quite clearly separates the Wii from the Xbox (hence the price difference?) amongst other things.

I thought it was too, until I saw the graphics on the Wii's games :) Maybe the developers are not pushing the hardware very far - let's hope so. It really should be a lot more powerful than the Xbox, because it is five years later and it isn't being handicapped by having to run in high resolutions. Its graphics should by rights, be twice as good as the Xbox's, I think. Maybe in time they will be, but it doesn't seem to be happening yet. In fact it doesn't even seem to be matching the Xbox.

Some of the titles look poor, I agree. But taking a look at the quality of graphics in Mario or Metroid show a quite clear advantage over the Xbox. Also, as someone mentioned in a thread recently, he didn't see a distinct lack of quality compared to the X360 when playing/watching a Wii demo pod. (Although it's quite clearly not going to match a X360/PS3 in a million).

I think Zelda/Red Steel quite comfortably match the Xbox, but I've not played on an Xbox enough to say if they surpass it. I didn't see much difference between GC/Xbox to be honest, and the Smash Bros trailer for the Wii shows the upgrade from GC to Wii and it's a good leap I think.

[EDIT: It'll all be beside the point if no games come out you want to play though anyway dd! :)]

True :) Not just that but the Wii's control system is a big doubt in my mind.

Overall I am disappointed with the Wii, I had high hopes for it.
