Wii on Component

My downstairs telly is an SDTV - with my HDTV being in the bedroom upstairs (long story, involves a baby and not living in my own home...). Basically, I've got my component cable but the Wii is very living friendly at the mo.

I've seen Component to SCART adapters for about £10. If I were to use one of these, would I get RGB SCART from my Wii? Thus giving me RGB or Component off one cable; useful for both types of telly.

Im not sure about the conversion but it would seem like it would work,

Would it not be easier to purchase a seperate RGB scart cable for the Wii (which retail around £15+) then you can leave the cables in the back of each TV and make it easier to connect the Wii each time.

turned down brightness and constrast, doesn't help apart from make everything dark. It's not the TV which is the problem
Well it's either the TV, cable or a faulty Wii because my official component cable doesn't do that.

Saves me a fiver or so to do it this way if it works, and I tend to shift everything lock stock and barrel when I move consoles anyway, rather than leave anything dangling out of the back.

Think I'll give it a whirl...

So Component is as i said. And the '852' is none existant. ;)

Yep, I was just clarifying what you said - although component isn't always 720x480, as the Wiki explains. I would imagine it is in the Wii cable.

No it doesnt. Component allows 480p. 480p is 720x480. I dont know whre you got 852 from.
And composite isnt 640x480 iirc either.

854 x 480 is Widescreen 480p @ 16:9 with a 1:1 pixel ratio..
In the DVD world, a widescreen anamorphic film DVD is encoded at 720x480 and then the player stretches the non-square pixels to 853x480 to achieve 16:9.

I know most Plasma EDTVs are 854x480 which would be a perfect 1:1 pixel map.

Im pretty sure the Wii outputs a 854x480 pixel map also when running in 16:9. ill try and dig up the tech-specs i found.

I have just checked: WVGA which is what the Wii putputs.. is 854x480. so i was 2 pixels out but thats the xbox 360's fault as it cuts 2 off for some wierd reason when running at this res.

So as you can see it's SOO bright but also lacks detail, can see the ground at all pretty much in the plaza, no matter how much i tweak my TV. Any ideas ?!?!?

What a PITA :( Could you get hold of another component, try taking that one back?

Can see Mii on that pic lol :D

Maybe I missed it, but you still haven't said if you are using a genuine Nintendo Component cable or a 3rd party one. As I mentioned earlier, some people are having problems with non genuine cables. I have spent 20 mins looking for info on this but I can't find anything to back it up. I know it's just a cable and it should work. Maybe it was just a random stupid thing I read somewhere. Still, if you can try another cable try that instead. (process of elimination)

here is a good link for info on the Wii video out : http://nfggames.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=2363&st=0&#

thanks for the replies. Using a 3rd party cable :(

still got my official one on preorder no idea when i'll get it though, guess i just keep waiting.

I picked up a my official from my local couple days ago, i would try that!

It looks stunning! No brightness problems whatsoever!

Is it possible to feed Component from the Wii into any of these monitor/ tv inputs?

(i) DVI-D
(ii) D-sub
(iii) Scart

i - impossible
ii - possibly if the TV will accept it it's not a standard thing, you'll have to check the manual
iii - you can go component > scart but you won't get a progressive image

I'm planning to take my Wii to my parents house. There are 2 LCD's I can try there. I really hope it isn't my LCD though as would have no idea where to go from there ! :(

Thanks for the reply.

Why is (i) impossible? Reason that I ask is that graphics cards come with a DVI to D-sub adaptor for use with monitors that don't have a DVI socket.

DVI-D is digital only so analog signals won't work through it.

DVI-I handles analog and digital so is VGA (analog) capable.

All graphics cards have DVI-I outputs, most displays have DVI-D.

is the Wii VGA compatiable ?

I'm looking to pick one up in the near future, does any one know stock locations, or any updates on when stock will be easy to get ??
