WII out performs PS3 in US

I simply can't argue with any of that :)
It's the shape of the PS3 which I'm not so keen on - I think the xbox and Wii have the upper hand in terms of aesthetics. What were Sony thinking? The shiny reflective case is very nice but the curvy bits? Nah!
Symmetrical lines = nice. Curves = bad.

The PS3 is a SEXY bit of kit. Best looking console I've ever seen, a piano black blu-ray player is what it is. Horses for courses, but I think the X360 is an ugly ipod wannabee.

Microsoft lack design and soul when it comes down to aesthetics. Which is one of the main reasons the original xbox failed so miserably in Japan, I cringed for them when I first saw that beast of a controller.

Admitally they have come a lot further this time round, almost licking its wounds from last time. But taking it's idea's from someone else. It still looks microsoft though.

I'm firmly in camp Wii, and just hope its as good as the reports i've heard.

The reason for this is because I like the fact that Nintendo are trying to innovate a stagnant market obsessed with sequels and better graphics. We've needed a new way to play games for a long time, and the Wii is this step forward.

It makes me quite annoyed reading replies such as 'the Wii's poor graphics mean I won't be buying it, they're not next gen'. Do these people miss the point of the Wii?

I hear what you are saying, it's the games not the power and those were my thoughts exactly when i picked up my Wii.. But once I got it home and spent time with it, I decided it wasn't for me. Maybe if I was 10 but not now.

it only "out performed" the PS3 if you consider just the unit performance. when you factor in total revenue derived from the sales, them i am sure it would be much closer with the ps3 havign a much higher ASP.

so when you say "performance" you can actually measure a number of metrics which would indicate this.

Xbox v Playstation is really a war between Microsoft and Sony, and I just cant see how Sony are going to overcome the power of Microsoft. We all know Microsoft’s history when it comes to knocking out its competition. Sony could certainly be heading for some hard times ahead.

Nintendo on the over hand have been clever enough to side step this battle, by making a very affordable innovative and dedicated games machine. This has certainly raised interest with many people I know, whom would not normally be interested by games machines… I know this does not mean that they will buy one, but at least Nintendo are getting themselves into the spot light.

Original Xbox was certainly a knock out for PS2 wasnt it :D
for the games it could do well the PS1 and PS2 were the best around bar none, and remember the PS1 was what has been widely acclaimed as bringing gaming to the masses - due to units in nightclubs etc

This round is completely different, the unit can be hidden in a cupboard or something and wireless controllers used - even my xbox360 is tucked under my bed with a wired controller.

I saw the comparison of the PS3 and X360 RR screen and personally I thought the background of the X version was better but the car itself looked better on PS3 ....

At the end of the day its likely the PS3 in one guise or another will be around for 3 years plus, so there is no way any realistic figures of its success or not are going to be around for at least 18 months

PS I plan to get a wii also - hopefully after the Xmas rush though in Jan and then I hope to get hold of a PS3 (60GB version) in time for my birthday in May

Is anyone else sick of console arguments? I know I am.

Why can't people just be happy with what they've got.

Yup! :p

I am doing the sensible thing, got my 360 back in March when it had enough titles at good prices to get me to buy one, got a good bundle.

Got a Wii on pre-order (not first stock allocation :() and that is for Zelda + Mario in the immediate future.

PS3 I will pickup around mid 2008 / 2009 when hopefully it will be £200 with a game. At the moment it has nothing I want to play on it and will not have for years.

After all, consoles are intended to let you play games and have fun. :)

I agree with the PS3 being a very nice looking console. It has really grown on me, when i first saw it i was a bit like "what the hell have they been smoking?" but now i really like it. Not sure if i prefer the 20 or 60gig version though... the chrome trimming is a nice value added feature.
Still i think the Black Wii wins it for me for best of all the consoles, ever. Just gotta love the small, minimalist design. The PS3 is just 2 big to take the title :)

As for MS bad design... the original XBox was ugly but the new one is decent and the rest of the peripherals are much better looking than anything previously. The controller is lovely. I like the Zune too so i think they have hired some good people this time around.

hehe, I'm sure if you did a search for playstation 3 and xbox 360 on the boards, You'd get loads of hits, and chances are the same thing has been said in every single one of them :D

It's all 360 owners, wannabe owners & fans, Saying theirs is the better console, or will sell more.

I think all these threads that have gone towards this kind of 'debating' should be merged. I'm sure the console part of this forum would be a lot less annoyingly repetative. :p
