WII out performs PS3 in US

I live in the states and really there is no truth to what you are saying.

I was quoting from an item on Foxnews, so I'm guessing the news is reasonably correct.

PS3 is in more demand than the Wii, the Wii has sold more cos more are availible.

This was the exact point of A)

as much as I admire Nintendo for their innovative controller, I personally can't stand the damn thing.

This is a personal opinion and has no bearing on what the rest of the US thinks, which according to the item I watched was the opposite.

Ok this is my opinion from a person who can easily wait for a PS3 and afford one.

I want games that entertain me, i'm quite happy with a game thats look ok instead of amazing so long as I enjoy it.

This is why ill probably buy a Wii for £180. I think it will be good fun on boxing day when the in-laws come round. Everyone can have a crack and im sure everyone will due to the simplicity of the games. I dont care if it is a jumped up Gamecube or the that the PS3 has a 7 core CPU.

I admit that when the PS3 comes out in the UK there maybe PS3 only games that make me want one. I bought a PS2 just to play GTA3! And i still have both!

So if that becomes the case i may buy a PS3 and also keep the Wii. It was cheap in comparison to the PS3 and still will be a good laugh to play on when the mates pop round for a beer. Heck me and my mate still fire up my Amiga Emulator and play Sensible Soccer!

I don't think many kids have 425 quid sitting around waiting to be spent.
Depends at what age you define kid. At 14 I bought a Kenwood Hi-Fi I had my eye on for months £225 IIRC, that was 11 years ago so not a million miles away from being equivalent to a PS3's price now. That was bought with my money saved up from doing gardening and washing cars plus a bit from my £1.50 a week pocket money.

These days you have to factor in the spoilt brat factor. My boss' kids for example at 13 get £10 a week and more thrown at them everytime they whine muuuuuuuummmmmm  So its not really that inconcievable.

The main thing that will stifle sales initially is it coming out after christmas but that won't stop a lot of kids getting one.

Only just properly noticed this, I guess the best way to answer this is with another question, are you an idiot? ;).

Lol - Like it has already been said, so long as it has a Playstation badge it will sell in droves!

It's weird how people always say these things are bought mainly by kids. The core market 360 and PS3 are aimed at are 18+. i.e. people with disposable incomes and parents.

Having actually played on one, I'd agree with his statement.

I've played a couple of wii games, I wouldn't. It may well turn out to be a gimmick but it's far too early to tell because no one knows what sort of games are going to come out.

Lucky you being able to have enough play time on a wii to form a conclusive opinion like that.

That was exactly what i was thinking.

On a side note about this topic:
I can't believe some of the rubbish being spouted here. The PS3 didn't sell MEGA amounts until it was in the sub £150 category. It is not going to be in that category for at least a few years. How hard is that to understand? At £425 its gonna sell well but nothing like the numbers you are talking about. Most people just can't afford it.

As for the "what little jonny wants, little jonny gets" sort of attitude, this is such a small minority of the population.
Parents are gonna go in to a game store and are gonna be told: There are 2 new consoles, the 360 or the Wii. One does this, the other does that.... what about the PS3 they will ask! Well that isn't out until at least march. It will be at least £425 and it won't have any better graphics than the 360 which you can buy now for £XXX.
Oh, well i will have a 360 then.
If the 360 is too much or parents like the look of the games for Wii it will be purchased instead.

The hype machine is a big deal, the Wii is selling out in the US because everyone is talking about it. It is in news papers and magazines, every article putting it head to head with the PS3. The PS3 said to be over priced and no different from the 360. The Wii said to be cheap, new and this amazing new controller that everyone will want to try.

The PS3 will sell well, especially in Japan where i think its gonna be a PSWii combo for most people (360 just doesn't have the games). In America and EU its anybody's game. By no means is it a done deal.

Good post ^ ^ ^

a. so what, that isn't going to stop sony selling to all the hardcore fanboys it's got world wide.

b. it's a gimmick tbh.

c. the wiii is a hell of a lot cheaper, that is taken for granted, but it is an overclocked gamecube with an engine for a gimmicky controller :p. When you compare the top of the range 360 (+ hd drive) to the ps3, the ps3 is cheaper.

You sound like the exact person who only looks at specifications, therefore...

here are some glasses to view specs with sir:

It's great to see Nintendo uping Sony this time, I think releasing an inexpensive console with great games (like Zelda, Dragonball Z) with an intuitive method of playing really shows that it's the games and delivery of those games (through low prices) which makes a console. Not specifications like El Doucho above me thinks

I was under the impression the graphics on the PS3 were going to be better than the 360. Maybe not just graphics, general game mechanics. Like 500 people on screen moving at high res looking pretty.

Maybe not now in the beginning, But when the developers get to grips with the technology. 7 cells opposed to 3 cores and all that.

Someone posted some Ridge Racer comparisons. The PS3 had better water graphics but the Xbox 360 as far as I could tell had full HDR (the PS3 didn't).

I think Xbox360 has proven that if you want to be powerful, you have to do the HDR thing

As far as i understand it:

Cell (PS3 CPU) > Xenon (360 CPU)

RSX (PS3 GPU) < Xenos (360 GPU)

So potentially the PS3 will have better physics and maybe more people on screen, however, the 360 has the potential to look a bit prettier, or more likely, run at higher FPS.

I'm lucky to have both, well actually a few of both, my ps3's are much more in demand on ebay. I'm also going to sell my final wii and buy a X360.. as much as I admire Nintendo for their innovative controller, I personally can't stand the damn thing. Plus the gfx are too poor to be classed as next gen. And Nintendo's complete lack of vision when it comes to HD has really annoyed me. I'm taking my money and running off to M$ !!!! but my PS3 will be the main man in town for me. For $600 what you are getting is unbelievable. to get a similar rig up and running with a X360 I'd have to spend $200 more and deal with a ugly looking HD-DVD slapped on the side.

From pretty much every other source, i have heard totally the opposite.

You know what just occured to me? This argument about "Oh, the name Playstation will sell Sony into first place regardless" is all well and good when trying to explain how the PS2 did so well, but what about the PSX? That's what actually got Sony into said first place, and they certainly weren't a household gaming name before that point. What was the generic name for consoles for non-gamers and kids mums and the likes before the PSX? Nintendo, of course. I lost track of how many people used to annoy my fussy child brain by referring to my mates' SNES (or worse, his Mega Drive) as his "Nintendo" whenever we played on it.

And what happened to Nintendo after the Playstation? Two poor consoles and third in the race outside of Japan. Brand name loyalty only gets you so far, and it can disappear much more easily than it can be aquired.

Maybe you should take a closer look at specs, seeing as that isn't a pair of glasses. ;)

I was pointing out why the wii is so much cheaper than the other two, it has innovation, but it lacks the expensive technology. Idiot.

You people should really get rid of that dirty great chip on your shoulder :p
In terms of price - the PS2 cost £299 on launch with one controller and nowt else and that was 5-6 years ago. They sold quadrillions of the things.

In terms of WII Vs PS3 in the US - I've seen the cringe worthy headlines "Wii outsells PS3" - nope, PS3 sold out. Granted, not an ideal situation for Sony but hey.

I'm looking forward to the PS3 - hell I've even created the space for my 1080p LCD and new console.

By the way, I've been going to fanboy annonymous since the PS1.

Yes they were, but they didn't sell "quadrillions" at launch. They sold a lot, but not the 60 odd million it is probably gonna take to have the best market share this time around.

Those headlines are correct... the Wii did sell more than the PS3. It had more than twice as many units and still sold out comfortably with plenty people still trying to get hold of one.

My that is a waste of space, it's gonna be empty for at least 4 months yet and probably longer!! :p
The space for the PS3 that is, you could get a 1080P screen any day. It seems the PS3 space is probably the bigger of the 2 anyhow... have you seen that thing? Its MONSTROUS! ;)

I simply can't argue with any of that :)
It's the shape of the PS3 which I'm not so keen on - I think the xbox and Wii have the upper hand in terms of aesthetics. What were Sony thinking? The shiny reflective case is very nice but the curvy bits? Nah!
Symmetrical lines = nice. Curves = bad.

Xbox v Playstation is really a war between Microsoft and Sony, and I just cant see how Sony are going to overcome the power of Microsoft. We all know Microsoft’s history when it comes to knocking out its competition. Sony could certainly be heading for some hard times ahead.

Nintendo on the over hand have been clever enough to side step this battle, by making a very affordable innovative and dedicated games machine. This has certainly raised interest with many people I know, whom would not normally be interested by games machines… I know this does not mean that they will buy one, but at least Nintendo are getting themselves into the spot light.

I'm firmly in camp Wii, and just hope its as good as the reports i've heard.

The reason for this is because I like the fact that Nintendo are trying to innovate a stagnant market obsessed with sequels and better graphics. We've needed a new way to play games for a long time, and the Wii is this step forward.

It makes me quite annoyed reading replies such as 'the Wii's poor graphics mean I won't be buying it, they're not next gen'. Do these people miss the point of the Wii?
