Wii price revealed..... again !!!

Am I right in thinking Nintendo can't operate by making a loss on their consoles like MS and Sony? I'd have thought if anything they need to actually make money on hardware AND software, hence the Wii being much less powerfull than their rivals?

This'll be the third or fourth time I've said it:

£129.99 for console, leads, 1 pad combo.

£34.99 - £39.99 for games.

More for the console if it's bundled with Wii Sports and another pad combo.

I would love to see it priced as nintenjo has suggested because I want another pad and Zelda, Metroid, Red Steel and probably a few others at launch!

What gives you that idea? Out of the big three companies, Nintendo are the only company to make a profit, and have very healthy 'in the bank' finances - both Sony's and Microsoft's game divisions make a hefty overall loss, with Microsoft recently announcing they still don't expect to make any profit for the next few years from the xbox & 360.

I find it quite refreshing that Nintendo concentrate more on the games than whats under the hood hardware wise, most modern games are linear pap lacking gameplay so if they spend more efforts on the games than pushing cutting edge hardware then i'm happy! It's been quite dissapointing the lack of games with true gameplay on the 360 so far... despite it's technical merits...

IBM could easily have improved their Broadway CPU for the Wii further, up to umpteen GHz... it is afterall just an update to the custom PPC 'Gecko' CPU from the Gamecube, likewise with whatever improvements ATI have done to the original ArtX Flipper GPU when designing the new Hollywood GPU. But going for the best specs isn't what Nintendo are aiming for - gaming is.

Anyway, i'm looking forward to the Wii!

Haven't really been bothered about the price, sub £200 was pretty much guaranteed from the start. The reports of Wii in good supply is encouraging though. Hopefully it won't be like hunting for 360s in 2005 (not like I'd know :p waited a while before I got mine).

I just got an E-mail from HMV saying
am sure you have heard the news about the delay of the launch of PS3 console, but the good news is that the rumoured release date for Nintendo Wii is 24th November 2006 with the anticipated price for the console said to be only £149.99*.
Confirmation of the above is hard to come by at the moment as Nintendo are playing it close to their chest, although we expect there to be further announcements in the next couple of weeks to coincide with the Tokyo Games Show.

We are conscious that many of you will be desperate to place an actual order and reserve a copy on the launch date. It may be that Nintendo announce the details to the public at the same time as retail but rest assured that we will pass these on to
you as soon as we can. As a Registered Games Rewards Cardholder, we will still endeavour to give you at least 48 hours prior notice before we start taking
pre-orders, but to some extent we are all waiting on Nintendo announcing plans.

* Release date and console price may be subject to change

Its not concrete but nothing else has been lol

I'm surprised HMV actually sent that email out seeing as Nintendo themselves said that that rumour wasn't true.

Theres a lot of games coming that are moving away from linear gameplay(thank god).

Off the top of my head: Dead Rising, Oblivion, Test Drive unlimited, Saints Row, GTA 4, Just Cause, COD3 etc and they are all coming to 360 and no doubt PS3(which will have a lot of games from 360 but will cost twice as much :/). Personnally i think the 360 is having a pretty good start(apart from the failure rate of the hardware).

Also, why not have good hardware AND good games, they are each created by entirely different groups of people and in theory, better hardware should allow Game devs the freedom to do more(like big open free roaming worlds) :)

I hope the WII is 130 or less, after all any higher and its almost as much as a 360, which will no doubt be even cheaper by Xmas. To charge close to the 360 would be a bit if a scam since the Nintendo hardware isnt anywhere near as good(not having a dig btw)

as posted in the other thread ;)

it looks like the games will be costing between £20-30 in Japan, presumably including the applicable Japanese taxes so they probably won't be much different here.

Oh, and downloaded games look like they will cost between ~£2.5 and ~£5, presumably based on the age of them (there is a screenshot with 2 sets of japanese writing with prices or 500 and 800, then the third says nintendo 64 and 1000yen)

How much are gamecube games in japan? i dont think we will see a Wii game cheaper than 30 - 40 over here. When i owned a gamecube i always found it the most expensive platform to buy games on. I am not necessarily saying thats Nintendo's doing, but games where never on sale or cheaper than RRP in any stores i checked in Glasgow, even online was always more expensive that PS2 and xbox.

According to Nintendo it's "every console until the N64", so no GC but a yes to the prior. Banjo Tooie here I come...
Is there anywhere I can find a summary of what happened at the Japan meeting this morning? Or will I have to wait for the US to start at 1 to start hearing details?

That sounds class..... golden eye and Maniac Mansion (NES) plus as many SNES ones as i can download for John! :D

Sorry to be a n00b but does it have a big Hard Drive or something the wii?
