Wildstar New MMO (NCSoft and Carbine Studios)

Reading the comment about the realistic look of mmo and preference I'm on the other side I prefer more realistic looking (suppose serious looking is a good way to put it), and that was one of the reason I stayed away from this game for so long, but even with that I really do enjoy this game.

I still have loads of issues with the the game, namely only 40 man top tier raiding (huge mistake IMO)
But all in all I think they going to do very well definitely for the short term, only time will tell how much of a impact on subs the 40 man raiding will cost them, and how long before they bring in smaller raids, which they will, but it's the old adage, 'once they gone they gone'.

Looks like wPvP could be decent in this game if the areas we share are fully contested on PvP servers ... Let the gank feast ..erm I mean large scales battles begin:D

For me that is one part in WoW I do miss and that was the 40 man raiding, obviously its a lot harder to get a decent 40 man group but seem like it was well worth the effort in back in the day.

Should maybe just be options to run 40-20-10 player versions and obviously loot various per size of the group?

I thought I saw a video a while ago where the devs were talking about having prerequisites for raiding. If you played vanilla wow you'll remember this referred to as attunement(not sure this is even a word!) where you would have to complete a fairly lengthy quest chain or process in order to get access to a particular raid.

What do you guys think about this? It's since been removed from games like WoW to make the game more accessible but a lot of people liked it as it provided more depth to the game, plus it would potentially filter out some of the casual players(not saying that's a good or bad thing).

I like it to be honest and it proved that you where willing to do abit ot prep and work in order to raid not just jump in a LFR (Looking For Raid) group in wow and sit at the back not do much and get free loot which a lot of people seem to be doing nowadays.

I hated having to get attunement for Molten Core Grrrrr

One thing is does stop is people claiming they know the encounters and are lying and haven't even been there once!

I love atunements personally, the Ony atunement in WoW for example was one of the best quests in vanilla for me. It also serves as a way to artifically slow down your population from hitting end game to quickly.

Really hope the PvP is good in Wildstar! I love the look of everything from the DevSpeaks.

Me too.

I looked forward to SWTOR and GW 2 as well. They were very fun for the first two months. Loved the pvp. It's all I did. I became bored though :(.

Hoping it's not the same with Wildstar, and it keeps me going for a while. Third time lucky! :p

I'm suddenly interested in this game massively. Must wait until it comes out retail though. Don't want to know anything about it until it arrives from the shop.

hate it and always have.
FFXI was the worst for that.. (although I really enjoyed that game)

you had level limit quests that were massively hard often requiring drops from dungeon areas that had the droprate of a wow legendary item..
one would drop , everyone would roll for it, the winner would bugger off to find a group for the next item in that quest, so you would need to get someone else in the group, it could take 3hours+ before you even saw a drop and then you had 5 people rolling for it and a small chance of actually getting it.
dungeons were not separate instances so you could have multiple groups fighting over pulls in the same area

until you did the said quest you were literally stuck at that level.

I think it was every 20 levels as well, so about 4 of them to get a character to max level...

everything in that game required a full group even just regular exping as was common in those days. but that meant everyone had to play well or ended up on peoples blacklists and could never get a group to do anything in the game which meant a nice community and almost 0 tards or afkers

Easy fix that, quest/raid dungeons instanced & regular exploration/levelling dungeons non instanced.

People want that back though.

I thought I had signed up and been waiting for along time like everyone else, thought I would login to check my account was still there and turns out I hadn't made one Grrr! So only just signed up so think my chances of receiving one are beyond slim but none the less good luck to us all lol

sorta the same thing here, I can log into my account but because the only game I had on there was Aion which has now been moved my account is kinda dead :(

so I've been sitting waiting and don't even think I was registreed properly :(
Luckily I got a Key from Vorlon :D all installed and ready to go :)

There is a 20 man step up raid you have to complete to be able to do the 40 man raids, not sure if it's locked, or just you need the gear, from the 20 man one, think it's the latter.

Well im in the beta and...its awsome..It gives you that same feeling when you first played wow. ESO online was a little meh...but this is really good. Very polished...graphics very wow like in art style but also gorgeous...i love the look and the details.. Animations are very fluid..it reminded me of wow mixed with guardians of the galaxy lol. The combat is much better than wow though..more fast paced and dynamic.
Consider me impressed..played wow for 5 years and apart from a little guild wars 2 this is the best mmo since.

Cool, I hope it's not just that shiny new MMO feeling that I've seen people gushing with at every MMO release to date xD

I like what I've seen so far, can't wait to try it.

Also agree on ESO, was pants. First time I played an hyped MMO beta and wasn't able to trick myself into thinking I'd play it for years. Crap.

I agree WildStar's looking good but I'm worried as the combat looks very spammy. It was a problem I had with GW2; rush in, dps zerg, hope for the best. It is interesting how people seems split with the graphics. While I like the art style I would have preferred something more realistic.

Every single MMO I've ever played has had spammy combat. Technically every single game with combat in it is spammy. You're doing the same thing over and over, whether it's spamming 1 or 2 abilities or a rotation. Even something more random like QTE can get spammy and annoying after a while.

One thing I really like about Wildstar's combat is that every fight involves movement. You can't just stand in one place casting abilities, you have to move about. Which immediately makes you feel more involved. I've also heard that later in the game you'll be required to use certain movement abilities during fights. For example, all characters have a double jump and a sprint and these will be required in certain encounters to make the combat more interesting.

As for the graphics, as Newbie says above this is for longevity. MMOs that attempt realistic art style look so dated after a couple of years. Comparing WoW and Everquest 2. Both around 10 years old and EQ2 looked arguably technically better on launch, but if you look at them now wow still looks decent due to it's cartoon(ish) art style but EQ2 looks very dated.

This is a good vid that discusses some of the differences and similarities between Wildstar and wow. Both my points above are also discussed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2WFr7rrMkU
