Will a 360 pad work with PC ?

Apparently "For Windows" just means there's a CD with drivers on in the box?

You have to buy a special reciever gubbin.

When I hooked mine up it didn't work initially and I had to manually add the device using the hardware manager.

360 pad with Skyrim seemed ok at first, but I soon got fed up with the lack of precision.

Visually it's a more "cinematic" experience with the pad as the camera panning is a lot smoother but I started to rage when I kept missing with destruction spells and bow+arrow. :/

SkyUI and Mouse+KB for me.

Not true, the wireless one on the PC has numerous compatibility issues, including rumble functionality being broken.

Wired pads, work perfectly however.

Rumble seems fine for me. Do you mean only on some games? Some games may not have it setup to work even though they are ports. But I dunno, it seems to work on the few games I use it with. What are the other numerous issues with the wireless pads?

Cheers

Look at the receiver the wrong way and it breaks, literally!

Plug it in, attach it to something out the road of anything and leave it well alone- as in don't un/plug it or bash it about if you can.

I've had about 4-5 of them, most got replaced under warranty but my last one lasted about 2 years.

Dead Rising 2 had issues with the wireless controller, wheras the wired one worked perfectly iirc.

I've never been interested in wireless on the PC because I use it sat at the desk. For the same reason I use a wired mouse and KB, I just don't take them anywhere. If I was to set the PC up on the TV then I'd get one

hmm that does not sound good, something to look forward to I guess

I think like most things here people have good experiences and bad. I've had the same wireless pad and receiver since tomb raider anniversary came out(2008?) and its still going strong despite being shoved in suitcases and bags and through 3 house moves and numerous moves to and from different rooms and moved between different machines. Can't say I've noticed any problems in games with it either. Guess I'm just lucky :)

The last 'big' game that I can remember that didn't support it was Mass Effect 1. Ignore anyone who mentions drivers, plug it in and wait for for the standard Windows bubble to pop up saying hardware ready to use.

Mass Effect 2 won't allow gamepad either, as i found out a few weeks ago :(

If the PC wireless receiver stops working (no light, just dead) then it is probably a small fuse on the pcb that has blown. You can easily fix it by soldering over the fuse (my works fine now) - there are lots of guides on the interwebs on how to do this. Of course do this at your own risk as the fuse is there for a reason, if it blows then for some reason two much current has been sent from your usb port (I've not had any other usb device problems though, so I can only guess the receivers fuse is very prone to blowing at the slightest surge).

I've never understood this, Mass Effect 3 will be the same I'd wager.

Bioshock 2 removed 360 pad support as well, whereas Bioshock 1 had full 360 pad support.

Not all PC games do work with a 360 pad. Mass Effect is the strangest of them all, it works for PS3 and 360 owners on a console, but Bioware reckons the keyboard offers better support and it uses a different HUD and interface to console users... Hence, no pad support.

I used the wireless receiver for xbox pad. Made Witcher 2 much more fun to play.

Seen a few people say this, is it because the mouse moves to fast and your game stutters, while the pad will turn slower. I see no other reason to use a pad, it plays and works great with keyboard/mouse, the way it was meant to be played.

You still need the wireless receiver for PC, and as I had to fix mine by soldering the fuse I'm not too keen on using it for prolonged periods of time.

^^ agree, xpadder is great. I think the older version doesn't work on W7 so you need to buy the new one, but works great.

Wireless receiver for PC is a given and i assumed that you were using it on the PC already and just was not happy with running out of batteries.

That May depend on the game as it works on mine and i put the pad on my lap when im not using it purely for rumble feed back when using M+KB.
As far as a game with 360 support that does not work with the wireless i have never had that issue.

I see where your coming from, yeah I did use wireless receiver with wireless pad. But I wasn't too comfortable with the solder job, didn't want it borking my pc, and the batteries always running out was a pain too! The play and charge kit is a great idea if you have a wireless pad and a PC receiver, but if you haven't got either of these (like the OP) then my recommendation is just get a wired pad for PC :)

Yeah that's all you need. It is a must have for some games. I mainly use mine for fifa and driving games. Most games have the one screen prompts for the pad built in as well.
