I've thought of that before but it would mean taking out the hard drives and elastic in order to get the elastic band around them. I must say that I have noticed a great increase in performance from my old IDE setup. 
] has a slightly different firmware that makes it more suitable for RAID configurations, but does that mean it's any less effective - or even unsuitable - as a single drive?
