Will humanity devolve to wearing nothing at all again and will the rise of homosexuality cause human

I agree with almost everything you say but your first point about it not being a choice, i dont think its as straight cut as that i think it can be a choice as well.

so whn did you choose to be straight?

Evolution is the adaption of a living thing over time to it's environment and conditions so it can survive and continue the cycle of life, having a gay gene would totally go against that. If 99% of the world population had the "gay gene", we would be in serious trouble wouldn't we? How would you pass on a "gay gene" anyway?

if you wish very very hard nitefly mgiht pop up and explain the science behind it.

I agree with this part.

There's no way homo/hetero is defined by genetics. If you got the sperm of a gay man and fertilised the egg of a lesbian the child would simply not be guaranteed homosexual.

Being homo/hetero or whatever makes your boat float is all in the mind - whether it's girl's toes, chiseled pecs, facial hair, or car exhaust pipes. It's due to life events, thoughts you have as a child, hormonal fluctuations; all environmental factors.

Put it this way, you can choose to have sex with a man but that doesn't mean that person is gay, plenty of men do this is the porn industry, but you can't just choose to be attracted to a particular sex, that is something different entirely, something your born with.

What do you mean "all in the mind"?, the mind resides in a biological organ, the brain.

Well i certainly dont know if i was born with it.. Basically as i grew up as a kid i noticed everything in the world suggested that males and female relations as the way to go, It made sense so i went with the flow.

Some crazy people have sex with animals, were they born that way?

Tonight's homework for you is to look up nature and nurture.

What?

Of course your cells contain DNA, that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying it's stored in sperm and egg.

If the sperm from a gay man fertilises a lesbian, the "gayness" isn't going to magically get transferred from their minds, into their chromosomes.

I'm very much on the nature side of the debate.

Look at homosexuality in rest of the animal kingdom, It could even be argued that gay black swans have an evolutionary advantage.

Honestly though I've learnt a lot from this thread.

I can only thank people for their civil-ness. or civility? (edit: yes civility is the word)

Once again, I'm not against gays at all. IF, just IF, homosexuality took over the world, I've got nothing against that.

You'll probably find though that they do this purely for sexual gratification/fetishism rather than real attraction, there is a big difference, as a species we are hard wired to be attracted to the opposite sex for the soul purpose of our species survival, of course though what we as Homo sapiens call 'mishaps in the gene pool' do occur in our development process, but I believe those are important 'mishaps' and part of another much needed cog in the great evolutionary machine, we need diversity on all levels, not just basic gender, religion, race etc, diversity is a lot bigger than that, imo it's an important factor to help temper ourselves as a species, to help us evolve, to incite us to create discussions and debates like this and grow.

It really is quite amazing how seemingly chaotic everything is but at the same time so perfect in it's grand design, kind how it feels when looking out at the universe at times, I believe we are a reflection of that, atoms crashing together creating life and reactions.

I certainly don't read them with any sort of 'serious' hat on these days, although I did however already pop in and lay down the law in one sentence condensed form :p

Seeing these threads makes me realise 2 things:

1) I have forgotten so much about a subject I was so passionate about. At least now I'm a little bit wiser.

2) I am simply too mentally exhausted from work to contribute to OCUK in the way I used to or discuss anything. All I post these days is throwaway nonsense of no consequence to anyone.

:(

I love all the armchair scientists in this thread. :p

The question of whether homosexuality is a result of genes or environment or both is a very difficult one which science has not yet answered. Do you really think that you can infer the answer when many, many scientists around the world are struggling with this! You are not smarter than them and you know far, far less than them about this!

Ultimately these things don't really matter.

Just out of curiosity then, is being camp a choice?

For some people it may be, for others it may be a subconscious thing. It's possible some men develop stereotypical macho/laddish traits because that is how they want to be seen and that is how they think society expects them to be. Perhaps some people are camp in a similar way. Some people find extreme 'laddish' behaviour annoying just as some people find extreme campness annoying. All that is a fancy way of saying I don't know! :p But I don't really think the question is that important anyway.
