I'm trying to find the answer to this seemingly simple question, but all I can find is info on how to UPGRADE to an SSD, not to start from fresh.

So basically, if I just build a PC and then power on, will it JUST WORK ???
:D

Or do I need to put the SSD into an existing PC to update it's firmware first or download some drivers or go in into the new PC's BIOS and activate AHCI or what?
I literally have no idea.

Help !!

It works just like a standard 'spinny' Hard Drive. You plug it in and install an Operating System onto it. Setting AHCI in the bios will improve the performance but it's not required.

From what i remember with mine it was just a case of unplugging all other drives, chuck the SSD in, set AHCI in BIOS, install windows, then plug the rest of the drives back in. If it's a crucial drive you can update the firmware afterwards (probably won't need to though) in windows and i imagine other brands are the same.

Phew...... I wish it just said that somewhere.
I got all scared with talk of Trim and controller firmwares and such.

Well, I have a sandisk extreme something or other, then once its all up and running, I'll throw in my old HDD, and I'm assuming that the fact it will still have a windows partition on will not cause any problems since the ssd will be set as the primary boot device.
