I found it difficult to watch the ACN without muting the TV. I hope the WC won't be the same, but fear the worst.

'Yes' is the simple answer.

However the politcally correct phrase is 'They love their football over here, it's going to be one big celebration, and the horns are going to add to the carnival atmosphere'

bah. humbug. etc.

You know. I wouldn't mind so much if it was at crucial moments in the game, if it was celebratory etc, but it's just a constant annoying noise which has no bearing on what's happening in the game :(

yeah, it's horrendous after 90 minutes of continual monotonous din, it already annoyed the crap out of me in the confed cup, and in the ACN as you said. Hopefully one of the broadcasters will realise people here hate it and offer an alternative commentary track via the red-button or something. I doubt it though...

Yes, it's going to be awful, it'll sound like there's billions of wasps descending on the stadium for the whole game. :(

I think they will have them for the first few games. Then broadcasters will complain to FIFA and they will be banned from the games.

I hate weird crowd noises in football fullstop. If it isn't horns, it's that annoying bell ringer at Pompey. Or the **** with the megaphone in Spanish football. Or the same Great Escape tune at every England match.

Could they not put an audio filter on that picked up sounds at certain frequencies/decibels (whatever it is) and quietened them significantly? Surely something like that isn't impossible in this day and age :p

I actually hate all crowd noise. The sooner they ban crowds at football the better. I want to hear the kicks of the ball and the commentator only.

I often mute Sky sports, hate the dull tone of the crowd noise.

Football should be played behind closed doors and only viewed on TV.

What I don't understand is the following:
  • Fans complained about the noise
  • Broadcasters complained about the noise
  • Players complained about the noise
  • Managers complained about the noise
  • South Africans complained about the noise

But yet FIFA will not ban them. Is it not more important that the world sees spectacular football?

Hopefully all the African teams will go out in the first round and then they'll have nothing to blow their horns for :D

Although i still have my Pot Noodle horn so i may upset the neighbours a bit.

It's going to be awful. Watched a few South African league games whilst out here in Nigeria and it's just a constant drone. So annoying. It's lazy chanting.

Banned after the first week I hope.

One positive... The England band will be drowned out! Haha.

Banned after the first week I hope.

Nah, they won't have the balls to ban them. I'm quite certain they think it's some sort of African cultural thing, so they'll fly the flag for political correctness and let them keep blowing. And boy do they blow (goats).

Seriously, I'm sure they're terrified of an expected backlash if they ban them, and inevitably some people would play the race card ("is it coz I is black that you banned my horn, the symbol of my ancestral struggle? outrage!")

I'm sure Sky Sports used to dub over crowd noises a bit anyway for quieter sections, could just do it again bet no one would notice :p. Its going to absolutely suck if they keep the horns, I don't see why their not banned absolutely everyone has complained about them.
