will the ps3 ever reach the standard of xbox live?

THere is no mess with MGO, just you have to sign up via a webpage for some ID's takes about 5-10 mins max, then you save your game id and its no problem

There was a huge show and dance about it at launch with people having to use different names and messing up friends lists, hence the question. Integration is something Sony REALLY need to work on to compete.

It wasnt Sonys call, Konami insisted it was to be this way, its their game, same as if there is ever a 360 version it will be like this or not at all.

Live is MS "thing". It's what they were counting on this gen. It's unique and separates it from the other consoles. Otherwise it would just have games and not appeal to devs.

Hopefully by next gen this would have shown devs that Xbox is a console to make games for. We have already seen that happen with FF13 now coming to 360.

I'm trying to think what more do I want from Xbox Live and tbh Sony actually have it. I want to download and keep movies and move them to devices. Fair enough the main service seems to be a complete rip OS wise but they have something I want.

MS are a software company. It's what they do best. They will try to keep on top. When the generation of downloadable games comes (Steam basically) to consoles, then we will see a new battle.

As for the constant "dedicated servers" talk. Do you guys really get lag that often? I mean I play a lot of FPS games. Halo 3, COD4... and I don't get lag. Dedicated servers do offer other things like what MAG is doing. But for me it's not something I need yet.

MS's rigid structure means that it's their (far superior) way or no way. Shame sony doesn't have the infrastructure to make those kinds of demands. And of course it was sony's call.

Er no im not going to argue as youll call me a fan girl lol :D. But Konami wanted it this way its there game, If sony said no there would be no MGO on MGS4, it would have been just a separate game. Pretty much like When you have to link your Live account to EA i think thats correct? Is that microsofts call or EA's?

You are not forced to link your account, MS wouldn't allow the forced link as it would degrade the quality of service like MGO did.

But i thought online for EA games you need to link to the EA network? Though i saw someone moan about it in the BFBC thread, i know once you done it its done though.

That's just for their online stat service. You don't need to link to play the game online.

I'm pretty sure you can play online fine without registering and all it's use for is stat tracking (worthless) and those silly bonus guns if you've played the demo etc.

Basically I'm hoping that when I get a PS3 Sony will have grown some balls, Konami will have grown up and that I won't have to faff around setting up stupid accounts for MGSO.

Hardly degraded it filling out 1 form, have you played it? It offers a third party market place for MGO items.

Messing about setting up accounts caused a lot of issues and a lot of people cursed the system. You still appear to only be selectively reading peoples posts in order to be an internet *****.

lol...you said it degraded the service quality, all you have to do is fill out a form and then login once, its hardly an issue tbh.

Hey ***** is a racist comment kreeee
It caused issue for those who mentioned it, most peoples went through trouble free. The Beta had issues but that was down to numbers.

You're highly amusing tonight mate, keep it up :)

It caused loads of trouble when people were trying to setup a game as only a few people had their PSN accounts as their MGSO accounts and the disjointed service is definitely a degradation of the service, completely ignoring the fact that it took ages to setup and didn't register properly when launched (no idea about how it is now, hence asking if it's sorted).

But you appear to be in ignorant fangirl mode so it's pointless discussing this with you.

They also have region splitting in some games, so youd only play with people from your region. If live had this it would improve lag and abuse problems.

Hell no. Players should never be locked away from playing with family and friends just because they live in different regions. These days distance should have neglible impact on lag unless your game has ****** netcode. I often get better ping times to US servers than some of my US and Canadian friends do (number of hops in the route, congestion, ISP quality etc all have more impact than geographical distance).

All they need to do is offer options to only play with people from your region when starting or joining games (ala Mario Kart), for those that care about it. But players should never be restricted from playing with their friends if they want to (I'm looking at you, MGO).
