Will the Samsung 980 PRO be backwards compatible with my motheboard?

Apologies if this is a dumb question but will this NVME (on offer elsewhere) drive work with my X99 motherboard? I know it wont achieve it's rated speed but it's not unthinkable that I may upgrade my whole system at some point if/when prices and availability of parts improves.

Yeah it should work fine. Your motherboard is "m" keyed in the m2 slot, so it is only compatible with NVMe cards.

The 980 pro can operate at PCI-E 3, but can't speak for x99.
