What other things do I need to buy to assemble? Cables etc?
The case already comes with 2 fans so i think i've covered everything?

ok thanks! ill ditch the card then!

i don't really see anything importantly better with the home premium apart from aero mode? which i never use anyway! (i have vista home premium on my laptop!) is the scheduled backup necessary?

apart from that have i picked all the right parts that are compatible with each other safely and reliably??? will it all fit in that case?
+ i take it i need a cpu cooler! will that one do?

the seagate barracude 500gb has a 32mb cache so i assume that is a lot faster for £2 more?

whats the purpose of this comp?
whats your budget?

any reason for going for that mobo?
the only reason you would pick it i can see if you wanted to use an old agp card or ddr1 but as you buying ram I see no need.

Also that grapics card is very poor but depends on your intended usage.

i think a corsair 450w psu would be a better job

And an Ac freezer pro would also be better

And yes the seagate 500gb with 32mb cache is slighly better :D

Cables will come with mobo, which I'd ditch & get this one instead. The mobo/chipset is better, e.g. 1333MHz FSB, HD audio, etc.

If planning to overclock, get a beefier HSF like mentioned above. If not, stick with the included Intel stock HSF.

400W will be enough for that spec unless planning to upgrade (GFX) in the near future.

basically the "communal" lol home pc has just died so i am trying to build on a budget as its not personally me buying it!
none of the users will be playing any games apart from my sister playing the sims and maybe rollercoaster tycoon lol

MOBO - i don't really know what to look for in a mobo apart from if its compatible with core2 duo? so i just found the cheapest?

pwndirect: thanks! those parts seem better - only went for 500w to be safe?
hp7909: that one is still nicely in budget thanks! whats GFX? HSF?

Looking at your usage i would ditch the way overpriced E7300 and go for a E5200 instead. You would also save just over £30 with this option. The E5200 is a fantastic cpu and if needed will happily overclock. I would also ditch the case and psu and go for a Antec NSK 4480B Mini Tower Case (Black) - 380W Earth Watts PSU saving another 20 odd quid at the same time. It's a good case with a good efficient psu which will be more than you need for this rig. My rig in my siggy only draws 242w at the wall!!

Agree with pastymuncher. Also don't see the need for 4GB (& Vista x64) if its just a home PC i.e. surfing, office work & the odd non-demanding PC game. Money saved can go towards a new gen GFX like the ATI 4550 ;)

While I agree with the points made by the 2 posters above.

For this sort of usage onboard grapics would be fine.

Such as the nv 7100 or amd 780g

Also is there any reason for you wanting to go full atx? as you could save both space my money by going matx.

Also for this sort of buget & usage AMD offer much better vaule for money IMO

I personally would go for :

mobo

cpu

case

ram

cpu cooler amd version of above

psu as above

HDD as above

32bit os

total £337

Solid mobo with best onboard grapics, bargin chip that will oc up to 2.7 easy with cooler. (not that you would need to based on usage)

I have a very similar build myself only I added 2gb more of ram & a 4850 & turned it into a gaming rig :p

wow you're all very helpful around here! cheers lol

i chose core 2 duo because i thought it was considerably faster?
the antec case with psu is a good money saver as long as i can trust earthwatts?!

I thought 4GB RAM will make a lot of difference?
Am I right in saying that if I have 32Bit OS then I cant upgrade to 4GB RAM later on??
I thought it was a no brainer to get 64bit because of this AND its only £4 more!?
What can the AMD be easily overclocked to?

+ i don't know what ATX / MATX is!???

How about this for a build based on PwnDirects but with 4GB RAM - Vista 64 HP combined with the PSU and case that pastymuncher said, all for £353 delivered!??

ATX is a form factor, i.e. set sizes for both mobo & case. Starts from full-size ATX & microATX (mATX) is one of the smaller sizes.

Antec Earthwatts PSUs are ok.

If you want to OC, stick to Intel especially Wolfdale.

My earthwatts 380W runs the system in my sig no problems, remember its not all about watts, this PSU has 2x 12V rails rated at 17A each which is very good. Yeah no point going mATX if your getting an ATX case. Yes intel are faster , but for your use, i dont think you will really notice much difference.

EDIT: Oh, will you be overclocking? Intel is the way to go

As above no point getting a atx case for an matx board.

Also this forum is occupied by intel fanbois.

Look at his specs & planned usage & yet you ask if he will be ocing

yes the intel chip mention is undoubtly faster but he wont notice the differnce in performance in his planned usage!!!

Its like specing a roadster for your gran to go shopping in :p

Looks better suited now to your purpose.

4GB of RAM is overkill you won't use much over 1GB for you purposes so 2x1GB total will be fine. The performance increase of say 5-10% you get from 4GB Ram is negated by the slow(er) CPU anyway, real world effects are negligible here.

You still need graphics card- for your use grab that HD3450.

Personally I'd have opted with an Intel E5200 without that after market heatsink.

The rest looks money :D

I was replying to this

What can the AMD be easily overclocked to?

And im not an intel fanboy, look at my spec in sig.
