Will this run COD4?

With my x850xt and a c2d e4300 @ 2.66Ghz on a 4x slot, I was able to play CoD4 just fine. Obviously setting shadows on slow things down, but the game was still VERY playable even at 1280*1024 and looked very good even at slightly lower graphics settings.

The thing you will be missing out on are the sm3.0 effects, such as seeing the shockwave from a grenage blast. The x8xx cards only had sm2. Apart from that, it will still work with cod4 pretty well, just be prepared for a few sacrifices on the effects.

I think I was a little disappointed with how little difference the upgrade to a 3870 actually was (in actually graphics quality) compared to the x850xt (Basically how it looked, not how it ran).

Problem is the psu in the system it will be going is pants and dosent have a PCI-E power connector and its out of molexes, hence the need for a card with no need for an additional power supply

Yeah, I got an X1900XT ( 512MB ) in an E6300 @ 2.8 and an X1800XT ( 256MB ) in an E2180 @ stock and there is no difference at all in terms ofplayability and visual stuff. I dare say that benching will show somethign up, but just playing the game there is no difference at all.

so, whether to go 512 or 256 I feel is irrelevant.

Now as to whether you can get that can or not, I would say that you will be throwing a few notes away just to get it to play COD4... As suggested, the MM is the place to be for somethign half decent instead.

you need a 8800 series or 2900 card really to play this game at a worthwhile standard :)

Somethign tells me you are trying to justify your 8800 then?

It plays perfectly well on any half decent card and plays just fine on even so-called "poorer cards" too!

It supposed to playable at low settings on a 6800, so it'd probly be fine for low detail 800x600

The box says it needs NV6600 or ATI9800 at least...

I have thrown it onto a 6600GT SLI PC and I can honestly say that its poor at the very best.

This, I find funny because MOH-Airborne runs much better on the 6600GT than COD4
