Will USA attack Iran eventually?

MacGyver for the win!

Why do they need Nuclear strikes? A few SF teams could probably take out a good few, and whats left will probably handed to the SAS or whatever.

It would be interesting to see if Iraq would actually support the US in an attack on a nearby country, maybe even Iraq would say no and say that they've done enough to wreck the middle east.

To answer the original question:

Why do you think they have sent an extra 21000 troops to iraq!

To change a lightbulb?

My theory, is that, the iraq government said give us some more troops and we will ensure you get your oil for the forseeable future.

Interesting to see Russia have said they will continue to arm Iran whatever the US do or don't do.
The beginning of a new cold war? Maybe.

I saw that on the news and this begs the questions, what is russia playing at and are they doing anything wrong? I guess the answer is not really.

Yeah I saw it on the 10 o'clock news. Can't find any more information on it at the moment (sometimes the BBC's news site fails to reflect the news it broadcasts on the television!).
I don't think Russia are doing anything wrong. Obviously they don't consider Iran to be part of the great axis of evil (tm). Aren't they assisting with nuclear enrichment too?

Actually, this covers it: http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?set_id=1&click_id=123&art_id=qw1168959060947B262

I dont think its just coincidence that the us have sent extra warships out to the gulf and no coincidence that Bush has put a Navy general in charge of military affairs.

Why put a navy general in charge when your country is currently fighting 2 land wars.........

why? because the us will launch an air war against iran before over running the country with troops. i believe the extra 20,000 troops being sent to iraq are in preperation for cleaning up in iran.

Just my two penneth :p

I think you're wrong (or perhaps I simply hope you're wrong).
Besides, 20,000 troops is nowhere near enough invade and occupy Iran. Far from it!

Are you implying that it couldn't/can't happen, if so I bite my thumb at thee, sir!

Im suggesting that if you wanted to destroy Iran's nuclear facilities, then the best way isnt to send in SF.

You dont walk into a heavily armoured underground nuclear facility that's the most guarded place in Iran and just destroy it, before flying home for tea and medals.....you do it the old fashioned way, with bombs and aircraft.

I think he's referring to sending in Colonel Burton armed with bombs, detonators and a snipers rifle ;)

Care to elaborate?

Okie dokie, currently iran and the rest of the middle east sell all its oil in petro dollars yeah? This effectively keeps the dollar over inflated as all the world oil sales go through it, raising its value.

Iran recently (2003/4) started talking about the petroeuro (i think that's what its called), opec are interested in this as the euro is more stable than the dollar and EU certainly looks a lot more stable than a future US. However China probably wasn't too happy when this whole thing came to light, as they hold one of the biggest US currency reserves outside the US. China signed its biggest oil deal with iran after it made this euro announcement, which was thought would effectively help protect iran from the US and ensure china's need for massive amounts of oil.

Since all this happened back in 2003-2005 china's probably not to bothered about the large currency reserve it had as its been buying things with it all over the shop.

there's not really much stopping anybody from flicking to the petroeuro really now, collapsing the dollar, opec will hold back though as the US is a big customer, and if the US is skint the cant buy oil anymore - other than that though, seems pretty feasible that the dollar could collapse

yeah of couse, but aerial assault can only do so much, otherwise we would only need infantry for military police / clean up

I seen some TV show about that, saddam et al where using the euro to trade oil with, thus making the dollar weaker! imo it's a good strategy, if you can't win outright. They also said that the US was so much in debt that if China wanted to, they could destroy the US economy in a matter of years!

Besides, everyone knows that China will be the new US :D
