Will we see an age of PC exclusives again?

I would love if we could go back to the days of the old military flight sims (Microprose and EA/Janes) which were complex and designed purely for the PC along with a 300 page manual that provided excellent reading in bed or on the loo! However we have to accept it isn't going to happen - after recently getting into Elite Dangerous I was quite surprised to discover it's also on the consoles.

Reading the manuals, those were the days!

Rather that than some of the bog-standard and unavoidable tutorial missions we get these days!

Nope, if anything we are more likely to see publishers/developers (certainly triple a ones) dropping PC, imo, it is not a question as to if but when.....

Go have a look at DCS. The manual for the A10C is over 600 pages. I'm just about there with the Harrier, and the currently (WIP) manual is nearly 200 pages, and there's still functionality that is to be completed and will almost certainly result in a larger manual. Also happens to be a fabulous sim to fly.

don't think there'll be any exclusinves, apart from mebbes star citizen [if it ever gets released], but it would be nice to see games made for the PC market and ported as a downgraded console game, rather than a downgraded console game being ported over as-is to PCs which are generally capable for far better graphics than xxx-year old consoles.

I've been tempted by DCS but does it sill have that awful Starforce or Starburst copy protection system, which put me off buying their original Black shark helo sim?

My ideal flight sim would be one that combined the best of the old Microprose games, Tornado and the DiD EF2000 and Total Air War sims. Sadly not likely to happen as
there would be little to no interest on the consoles. Then again, you would have thought that about ED.

Crypto currency is really messing with GPU prices and only looks to get worse. This seems like it could really hurt PC gaming down the line. I have been waiting to replace my 970 for years, but the prices of the 1070 never seem to drop.

Oh come on, you don't need the latest card to play games at 800 FPS. at whatever crap resolution you likely playing at.

970 is still a very strong card.

Down the line i'm talking about. If the greedy manufacturers and retailers keep raising prices to cash in on the miners its going to make PC gaming even less accessible than it already is.

Star Citizen looks epic & only PC can handle it but I think it will end up eventually being cut down to fit the consoles as well. Modern games cost way too much to make as all the dev time goes on graphics so that means you have to publish on PC, Xbox1 + PS4 to have any hope of a decent return. PC only really offers technology 3-4 years ahead of consoles nowadays as most games have the same gameplay across different platforms.

If anything in future PC will most likely get sidelined more and more as consoles sell x10 more than PC on most multiplatform titles. But this is not going to happen for many years so your quite safe buying new hardware for the immediate future. I think within 10 years all major publisher games will run from the cloud so the platform you have will not even matter anymore once Gigabit fibreoptic to the home is standard you can get away with a tiny little streaming device to connect your display, controller & network.

Bitcoin is already imploding the bubble is bursting so if anything GPU prices will drop rapidly as the lead time means there will be a surplus of new GPUs in a few weeks. Also Nvidia & AMD can also chose to make many more but it suits their profit margins to keep supplies tight right now as less unsold stock to dump.

There may well be more console sales but everyone of those can be resold secondhand over & over and also copied so countless new sales are lost.
PC games are more & more getting tied to accounts such as Steam so you cannot sell it unless you sell the steam key with it.

Dude we're telling you go play DCS it's 100 times better than the games you described and its constantly evolving and updating and you come up with some lame excuse. PC gamers sometimes  Most of you are just bored of gaming and don't have what it takes to play these hardcore games anymore, consoles have nothing to do with it.

Games take so many millions to develop that I would say that there will not be many exclusives.

You can rest assured though that whilst the console is perfect for the casual gamer, nothing imo beats a high end PC for the 'best' experience.

I just can't see how multiplatform games like PUBG can be as good on a console.

PC exclusives cost a lot of money, so it's cheaper to just port it.

So no, we won't see an age of PC exclusives.

Watch Valve release HL3 on PC, the master race lives again....

In all seriousness it might have a big effect but they would be idiots to ignore Xbox/PS4/Switch as well. But other than HL3 i think the boat has sailed for amazing PC only games that consoles dream of.
